Bored of the NFC features of your devices?

Every NFC tag you tried (hotel keycards, lift passes, price tags, merchandising key fobs etc.) is write protected?

Dont want to buy plain tags for playing around?

Try "NFC ReTAG"!
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.widgapp.NFC_ReTAG_FREE

--> Reads the ID of the (write protected) NFC tag and connects theses tags via a app internal database to various functions (e.g. Toggle Wlan/ Bluetooth, launch installed apps, trigger TASKER tasks, start navigation, set ringer mode ,browser etc.)

XDA-Portal article:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/nfc-re-tag-application-allows-users-to-re-use-write-only-tags/
(misleading title ;) --> read-only or write protected tags!) :)

OK, just one remark, as Ive been asked again and again:

The ONLY way to get the PRO version is Google Play. There is NO apk download or whatever!

EVERY OTHER VERSION YOU COULD FIND IS AN ILLEGAL VIRUS INFECTED PIRATE VERSION!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Issues with default app chooser ("Choose an action"):

- Writeable tags --> just write a special NFC ReTag tag (more button).
- Non-writeable tags --> just disable background dispatching within all other NFC Apps (every good NFC App should have such a setting). System Apps like tags can be disabled via the App info screen.

Nice dude! I just downloaded it and tested it out with a ski tag I had from a few weeks ago at blue mountain. It worked flawlessly.

I wasn't sure if the ski tag was nfc or rfid, but aparently it was nfc! Thanks for the cool app. I look forward to additional actions being added in the future!

Edit:

Is there any way to bypass the "An app wants to turn on Bluetooth. Allow?" prompt? It appears every time I scan a tag that has a bluetooth on/off action associated with it.

Hi raing,

seems that this bluetooth prompt is a "security" feature in android and there is no possibility to disable this on an unrooted phone ... at least I found no way until now...:) ...

If there is a possibility, I will include it within the next update...together with some new activities :)

regards
ascsa

EDIT: ok found a solution ;-) ...will include it within the next update ...

I have a building access Card and a Key-Fob for entering another building as well as a Keyfob that saves credit for a vending mashiene, but it doesn't seem like the app is able to see them. Are there maybe differences between EU and US tag standards?

Edit: Oh... I guess they could be all RFID-Tags...

There are so many nfc "standards" and formats.. It's a shame... But I'm not aware of any special differences between eu and us tags...

If your phone recognize a tag, the app should be able to handle it.

The imho best check if your tag is compatible is: close all (nfc) apps... Enable nfc within the settings And tap the tag to your phone... If nothing happens, it's very likely that it's not a nfc tag...(or something with your nfc adapter is broken)...

It seems like the tags are generally incompatible with the Phone. Oh well. ^^ It is able to find my passport, but that seems to have a different ID on each scan-attempt.

Yes,

the (new) german passports (Reisepass und Perso ;-)) change their ID on every read attempt for security reasons ... so no luck with this app --> It´s also mentioned as exeption in the app description ...

... try for example lift passes, hotel key-cards or badges ...

I wouldn't think this app was helpful but I knew all those hotel NFC key cards I "left in my room" or "lost" would make great use. And now especially Tasker advanced, the possibilities are endless. I keep a used hotel card in my wallet. When i make a purchase, i tap my wallet and it triggers up a receipt scanner where I keep all my receipts in a database store for backup!!!

Great app, will be looking for dev support and updates.

I do suggest: I use another app that just basically reads EVERYTHING that is written on an NFC tag. I would like to see that incorporated into this app just to have an all in one... My 2 cents...

Are there other items that can be used, instead of buying tags? For example, what about those security things you find on stuff you buy, that sets off an alarm if you walk out of the store? Are there others, besides hotel key cards? thanks!

Hi SicMe,

glad you like the app. And yes reading and writing tags would be a nice additional feature and would make some things more easy--> It´s already on my ToDo list. :D

But at the moment, I think there are some quite good apps for writing and reading available and I have some more unique ideas to implement ... some obvious ideas like adding more activities (for users without tasker) and one or two game changers :)...

So bottom line:read/write feature will come, but perhaps this will not be the top priority ...

BTW:On my device I added a tasker profile : Shake phone --> open NFC ReTAG to bypass the standard nfc background intents ... works great if you have several nfc applications installed and want to bypass the chooser ...

.....Don´t forget to rate the app :) .....

These security things are likely RFID tags ... in short terms: same technology, different frequencies and therefore a higher range for reading ... BUT not compatible ... at least the ones I tried out so far ... There could/ should be some nfc price tags out there ...so just try them out ....

Confirmed working tags (so far): some lift passes, some hotel keycards, boston bus ticket (CharlieCard), moscow subway tickets, some badges, some merchandising key fobs and nfc vCards ... some passports have nfc capablities too, but the ones I know change their ID for security reasons on every read attempt --> so no use for this app :(

But perhaps some users here can confirm additional cards/ tags ?

There plenty of good threads on NFC, just type it in search and you'll get great info...

You are correct on other apps, I guess you can concentrate on bringing ideas to your app.

Another thing... Do you think when I tag something, it's possible to minimize or even eliminate the "Discovered Tag!" pop up every time it activates? I have a couple of tasks associated with one "tag" and the pop up takes about half my screen with too much info going on. Othe than that, I'm enjoying, going to rate now, thanks OP.

Do what I do and storm through your house/job/wallet and start tagging everything in sight, lol...

This is a little tweak, I will definitely include in the next update ... -> Disabling/ enabling the pop-ups via preferences ...

Hi,

did you set the option Allow External Access (it´s under Preferences / misc --> in the german UI: Einstellungen / Versch.) in Tasker ?

Could you tell me what the little "detected tag" pop-up says?

Hmmm, seems that there is a strong need for this wifi choosing feature ...no problem, will add it within the next update -->release: probably next weekend, together with some additional functions, settings and bugfixes

Easy. I have three wifi networks at home, and two at work. My phone can connect to all of them, and I do NOT always connect to the same network. In fact, one of the primary uses of NFC tags is to direct the phone to connect to a specific network. (So at home I have three tags next to my key ring, and a similar set up at work).
    Ok, got it.

One of the things I liked about NFC tag launcher is the ability to connect to a specific wifi network.

Also, looking for these functions, if possible:

-connect to a specific bluetooth device
Hmm, would makes sense if you have several paired bluetooth devices in range at the same time.... never happend to me ... but I will have a look ... the problem will probably be the so called "bluetooth standard" ... it´s a mess !

-turn on/off WiFi Access Point / Thethering
Added the activity "enabled WiFi Hotspot" to one of my prototypes ...just enables the preconfigured wifi hotspot ( I disabled the SSID and Key settings)..... works great on my testing devices ...but some serios hacking is envolved ... so perhaps I will add this as some BETA function ...

-turn on/off GPS for rooted devices
GPS Toggle is only available on rooted devices ... currently I don´t want to make NFC ReTag a device administrator .... but, at some Point, I think I will have to do it....have you tried tasker with the secure settings plugin? .. I think there is a GPS option ... never tested by myself ...

btw. on all my devices GPS is always ON ...if it´s not needed android turns it automatically off .. and from my personal experience I do not see a significant impact on battery life with GPS alsways ON ...But sure, I understand this feature request.

    Hy ascsa,

I've an Parrot AR Drone. It works with wifi. And flying near an other wifi (in the garden in front of the house), i've to select whitch wifi I'd like to join.

It would be awesome to turn on the drone, scan a tag and it turns on gps, wifi, connect to the drone's wifi and start it's app.

Is this a scenario, which makes sense?

Yes ,got it ;-) ... GPS as mentioned above.

I'll explain you why I'd like the function. I live in an house with 3 floors. For several reasons I have in each floor a different wifi network. All the time I go down or up I have to change on my phone the network and that's pretty boring. So I'd like to put an NFC tag on every floor and the just scan it when I arrive there.
    Yeah, got it

Is weird that you didn't think about it, because also the app NFC task launcher has this option :)

I have a look at other NFC apps, frequently .... some are good, some are bad ... nfc task launcher is a good one I think, but anyway, I will not add every feature from every other app ... the features must make sense to me ... or at least there is a strong user demand ;-) ... and I always prefere to implement some new and unique features, rather than these "me too" features ....

Of course would be also great to store on the card the password for a guest network (or just the main network) and give it to friends.

As mentioned, not in the near future...it´s something for the mid or longterm ....

    Update 2.5

I will have a look at one or two additional things until Monday or Tuesday, and then I will decide the final scope for the next update:
small update --> probably end of next week :D || bigger update--> additional one or two weeks ...

OK, update released ...Main app 2.5 and plugin 1.2

    Update 2.5 (2.5.x = fixes)

    * Support for placeholders (e.g. [%UID], [%DAT])
    * Tasker Task advanced (pass variables to tasker)
    * ReTag Broadcast (for 3rd party apps)
    * Improved Timestamp activity (Define Calendar ID and Title prefix via settings)
    * Language support for German
    * Minor improvements, tweaks and bugfixes

Looks like a small update, but the placeholder support and the advanced Tasker tasks and last but not least the ReTag Broadcast gives you lots of new and unique possibilities ...

Update 1.1 with "tasker" task support is released....
