I am using M5 kernel for the Z2 with a custom CM-based rom. I can install XZ dual recovery and get into PhilZ's recovery on my first boot. Subsequent boots into recovery force me into CM's recovery.

How do I rectify this? kernel builder does not support the M5 kernal. Is there a work around?

Add the cm version with the kernel name to the firmware list, then repack your kernel.

I've no idea how..... But the M5 author has images for each of the recoveries and the M5 kernel, so I flashed the M5/PhilZ.

If you can read you will notice the link to the add firmware function on the kernel builder.

Update on non-stock kernel
Am I correct that this dual recovery can now be upgraded when you do not have a stock kernel installed?
I've seen a message where the initial installation seems to work when doomkernel is installed.
Anyway I want to upgrade to Lollipop but beforehand I wanted to upgrade this dual recovery to the latest version.
Will the installed doomkernel be an obstacle when installing lollipop?

Z1 has official Lollipop right? Use the kernel builder to make a boot.img (if not done already). Fastboot it, and flash ftf without kernel. Should be able to restore data from previous Doom backups after that.

Apply a sdcard permission fix and it should spring back in to life.
