What is Substratum?
Substratum is an application, downloadable from the Play Store, that utilizes all of Sony's Overlay Manager Service (OMS), found on the official AOSP code review. This is similar to Layers in terms of stability and customization as it runs off an upgraded version of the Resource Runtime Overlay system, with the added benefit of running up-to-date Sony code on a customized ROM.
What is Masquerade?
Masquerade is, simply, a helper app, that gets prebuilt by Substratum supported ROMs, allowing Substratum to alleviate OMS tasks in the background without refreshing any assets. In technical terms, Masquerade is a service that loads OMS commands into the system directly, and while OMS itself refreshes resources and assets on runtime, it will refresh the caller's window, asking it to refresh resources and assets each time an overlay is loaded/unloaded from the system.

I was very happy to see this here, as I was struggling to deal with some bugs in the latest version from Sony (rooted, etc.).
It installed easily on my C6506, and mostly works great. It is smoother than what I had by quite a lot. Initial impression is the battery runs down fast, but that may still be side effects from all the downloads and initializations.
There are a couple of problems surrounding the settings, and it is not completely reproducible (though once it starts it stays). In one case I was in the Settings, Display, Display Size option and previewing different sizes. The soft buttons at the bottom vanished. Nothing I could find would bring them back, leaving me stuck inside settings. A reboot cleared it. Is this more-full-screen mode some new feature and I just didn't know how to get out?
Possible related and also in settings, I have had it just hang. Most recently it would hang going into Gestures, give a black screen, and eventually say "not responding". A reboot cleared that up also, and now I can get into gestures.
Other apps so far work fine in a couple hours of trying, will report more as I test more.
Thank you for doing this, I'm hoping to get a bit more life out of my ZL, waiting for the Pixel 2.
Update 2/9/17: Using it a couple days now, very stable, power consumption comparable to Sony's, no real issues (I've avoided a lot of setup changes). Connected to car, made a few calls, messages, gmail (including exchange). very nice.
Hi...I'm from Brazil...This rom is great, everything is working very well, the battery is lasting longer than the stock. Ah ... could you put the irda to work? Ah ... I noticed that when the 4g is on, the device heats up and the battery ends a little faster than normal.

Long ago I researched deeply into a prior version of CyanogenMod, and the version offered used blobs (if that's the word) from another version than the C6506 I have, and so it supported only a subset of the radio bands, leading to less complete coverages in the US.
Do you know if the offered version of crDroidAndroid supports the C6506 radios in all bands, or just a subset?
Yes, if I dig deeply enough I can figure out which bands work, and which should work, but I was hoping someone just knew before I spend a lot of time.
I ask because I was in a pretty populated area a couple days ago, and could not get an AT&T signal. Maybe a coincidence, but it made me wonder.
The only Bug so far is that the lockscreen doesn't respond sometimes. I think it has something to do with D2W. Quite annoying because I have to restart the Phone everytime.

Excelent build, using for 2 days and everything appears to work fine, including IRda and NFC. Just a question: the FM radio does not work? Use the pre installed radio apk , and also spirit free, and it does not work. Model is C6503 .
People told me that this Xperia ZL has FM receiver and transmitter, I wish to try them.

The only Bug so far is that the lockscreen doesn't respond sometimes. I think it has something to do with D2W. Quite annoying because I have to restart the Phone everytime.

Awesome Rom, goodjob bro. It would be perfect if you enable led notification when charging the battery. In the latest version (3.2) phone refused shut off completely, display light still active when phone is turned off.
