hi,

seems very few tried this. i can say, that it's working very well on my xperia pro for a week now. i previously had the induction charger in my xperia mini pro for some month without problems. charging takes about 1/3 longer, but that's it.

try it! it's not that hard and phones are getting old :D

The next step would be to also transfer audio in this way. So all you need to do is placing your phone in your car kit, and it automatically charges ànd creates and line out signal for your car stereo.

Sent from my lt18 using xda app-developers app

Well the wireless audio line out is already implemented. Otherwise known as "Bluetooth".

I just realized, this post is old.

sorry for the late reply. all you need is the palm pre backcover (the induction coil), and of course the touchstone.

only 2 things happening with your phone:

- connecting the +5v from the palm coil to the +5v of your phone (soil to the usb connector)
- connecting 0V (GND) from the palm coil to 0V (GND) of your phone (i used the simcard holder because it is connected with the phones GND)

thats all. it should work now :D

disassembling is nearly as in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ga4N_Ih9GE

if you are unsure which pin of the usb to connect:

usb-micro-b.gif

you need pin1 for +5v

i also recommend to use a dremel to prepare the backcover of the xperia. make a flat surface where you paste the palm coil.

the wires you use to connect the coil on the backcover and phone have to be very thin. but i think not thinner than the ones shown in the video. if you use thicker wires, the backcover may not close perfectly. you have to try. i use 2 wires from cover to the phone because it is the easiest way if you don't change your battery too often. if you put off the cover often you should pay attention how the guy in the video did it. this wiring looks better than mine of cause.

one important thing:
for the touchstone use your original sony charger! i told you! other usb chargers may not work.

looks like a bit of work, but surely will be a cool gadget!
i suffer from some problems with my micro-usb port, sometimes the plug-in disconnects and so it sous not charge. minor problem but a bit annoying :)

    Just finished the Sony Ericsson Xperia ARC induction wireless charging mod
    http://www.pbase.com/xperia_mods/xperia_arc_induction_charging_mod

    Pls look at this reference video to get an idea what you are going to get and what it takes:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ga4N_Ih9GE

    Parts you will need for this mod:
    * Palm Pre back cover and Touchstone dock (8-15$ on eBay)
    * Self-adhesive copper foil
    * thin wire
    * small star and maybe Phillips screwdriver
    * thin soldering iron
    * solder
    * 2 ohm SMD (1/8 or 1/4w) resistor is needed to balance on peak. Will not work without it.

    Guide to open the phone(you don't need to open it all the way as on that video! Just few first steps): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae-WQkNh8mE

    MIND two restrictions:
    1) this induction wireless charging will not work from PC or Laptop USB plugs (at least for me) looks like cradle needs a bit higher voltage then 5v. As USB is usually below 5V (~4.8). It can be due to the presence of resistor.
    2) it won't work through almost any case / jacket / cover if you put it on you ARC. As it becomes too thick to let induction and magnets alignment work. for this you need to put induction coil in your case as I did for RAY http://www.pbase.com/xperia_mods/xperia_ray_induction_charging_mod

    Q: Will it interfere with any phone functions and radio modules (GSM, WCDMA, WiFi, BT, GPS ...)
    A: NO all works as good as before.

    Q:Is this really worth opening your phone, and probably damaging it?
    A: It is up to you. For ARC I'd say it is worth opening as you need to open only one back cover, no modules disconnect, connect etc. If you feel experience in opening the small electronics and soldering go ahead!

    Q: Also, what about the charging times? Is it as slow as USB charge, or almost as fast as wall outlets?
    A: Charging time is almost as fast as wall outlets. Charging current is around 350 mAmps

    Q: Can I use it in the car
    A: Sure!

    Q: where do we have to put the resistor?
    A: just in line of + or - like in this sample
    http://www.pbase.com/xperia_mods/image/141117444

    Q: Will my Micro USB port work after mod?
    A: Yes it will work as good as before and you can charge through it as before

    Q: the cover is closed complete after install?
    A: Yes, you will not notice a difference from the outside

    I HOLD NO RESPOSIBILITY IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PHONE OR YOURSELF DURING THE PROCEDURE!
    This mod might void your warranty! Though I don’t think a SE repair man will be able to find traces of this mod on first sight if removed cleanly.
