With the latest snapshot (M6) I don't have this problem. I just press and hold the icon/widget I want to remove and I drag it on the "Remove" option that appears on the top left corner under the status bar.
So, I flashed the snapshot but I didn't get the possibility to remove homescreen elements... No X on the upper side nor the other corners...
I had to install Next launcher to clean the HS...
Edit: only the nightly let me delete from HS.

Some bugs in 6/23 nightly
I did a clean wipe and installed the 6/23 nightly (I was previously on stock rooted).
When I installed the 4.4.4 stock PA-Gapps it would not install Chrome or the camera. There was an error that there was not enough space on /system. I was able to install Chrome from the play store and the Nexus 7 camera app from the play store as a work around.
I have two other issues.
The first is the WiFi region code will not stay selected as United States. I found with other CM ROMs on other devices the 5 GHZ band is not available unless you select your region code. If I select US for the WiFi region code, I briefly see my 5 GHZ AP and then it shows as not in range. If I check the WiFi region code, it doesn't show any region selected. I tried manually added my 5 GHZ AP and it shows as not in range and cannot connect.
The second issue is with tethering. I can add the Wi-Fi AP toggle to the quick settings panel and turn it on and off. From another device I see the AndroidAP as available. I cannot find the Tethering & portable hotspot settings to change the SSID and password. AndroidAP is the default SSID in CM ROMs, but I cannot remember the default password. Even if I knew the password, I'd still want to change the password and SSID so that someone else doesn't use my data when I have it enabled.
Does anyone know how to enable the Tethering & portable hotspot settings under Wireless & networks for this ROM?

I upgraded to the latest nightly to see if those bugs had been fixed and no luck.
The WiFi region code still won't stick. No access to 5 GHZ WiFi.
The Tethering & mobile hotspot settings are not there, unless you try this workaround.
Turn on airplane mode. Reboot the tablet. Go into Settings > Wireless and networks > More... > Tethering & portable hotspot > Set up Wi-Fi hotspot. You can then set the SSID, Security, and Password. As soon as I enable the cellular radio and it connects to AT&T, the Tethering & portable hotspot settings menu is no longer there.
I can now turn on the mobile hotspot with the Quick Settings toggle. I see the SSID I changed it to. I can connect using the password I set. Unfortunately, I cannot get to the Internet. When I look at the IP address on my PC, it's an autoconfig address. The Nexus 7 didn't supply an IP address, so my PC picked one at random and it doesn't work. It appears the DHCP server for the mobile hotspot is not working.

This is not fair. Grouper has got its M8 while Tilapia is stuck with M6
Its to early, the build are released alphabetically, last release is "maguro" so there are still some devices until "tilapia". Maybe we are lucky.

Check out http://jenkins.cyanogenmod.com/job/android/, its already in the build queue at the time of writing. Looking at the speed and the queue I guess it should be ready by 9 or 10 pm today. So keep fingers crossed that there are no problems in the build process four our device...

Hi all, i have an issue from nightly 06.07.2014 and now on 08.07.2014 M8 - tablet can't send SMS through Hangouts app. I just can't change message mode (from hangout to sms) because icon of sms disappeared somebody know, how to fix this? Thanks

On homescreen long-tap on settings icon and put it on app info icon, then clear data and it'll be working

Installation Instructions:
1. Download from: GET.CM
STABLE 10.2 LINK
2. Download GAPPS from: LINK
3. Place on SD card(internal storage)
Note: The latest TWRP(tilapia) or CWM is needed
4. Reboot to recovery, Install XXX-tilapia.zip, Install gapps.zip
5. Reboot and enjoy
6. For new Nightlies use the build in CM updater.

It was a pain and took me 2 days.. ( every build takes me 5 hours, every repo sync 30 minutes, and yeah.. the merging...i dont want to count the hours
did the first time an own device tree)
but finally everything works cm10.2 for tilapia.
Will upload the build shortly but my interent is so slow so it will take a few hours7
Thanks to @n3ocort3x I've resumed my cm builds but I'm not creating a thread here since my last tilapia thread closure.
Those who knows my download sites can go ahead and try.
And many thanks again to n3ocort3x for the tilapia device tree which points out my mistake in my failure to bring tilapia up.
