You mean that it was at 4.0.4 before you tried to apply the JB update, right? I'm pretty sure you have to be on 4.0.4 before it will install.

Sorry, I mis-typed that. Yes you are correct, I meant that it was & still is 4.0.4 and trying to update to JB 4.1.1. I had the un-rooted OTA JB 4.1.1 on it when I first received it so I flashed back to 4.0.4 to get root and now trying to get back to JB and retain root. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if you said this but I just want to be clear. When you went back to ICS did you take the small 6mb update and then root? If so, did you make a backup of SU before you temp unrooted? Also you didn't delete or freeze any apps before the ota did you?

Uhhhhhh....yess/no?? To be honest I'd be hard pressed to say I didn't do anything at all in between going back to ICS, rooting, then trying to update back to JB because I was poking around making sure things worked properly after I went back to ICS and rooted (like installing Titanium once I was rooted so I could perform restores, etc.). So what do you think, start all over?

Hmm I would.

1.) Restore to 4.0.4 via the utility.
2.) Go to settings - about phone - update and take the 6mb update.
3.) Root using the utility
4.) Install voodoo ota rootkeeper.
5.) Protect root
6.) Temp unroot
7.) Take the JB OTA
8.) Open voodoo and restore root.

No problem. Good luck.

This might be interesting info to some. I wanted to make sure I had good backups once more before doing this so I opened Titanium but it told me it couldn't get root access, even though the Superuser & Rootchecker apps told me otherwise. I updated SU binaries & toggled root on/off/on in Voodoo Rootkeeper then tried Titanium again but still no luck verifying root in the app (again, even though Rootchecker told me I was successfully rooted)...no biggie since my last full wipe was last night so I have a recent backup. So I plugged in the USB cable to start the process over and the Motorola Device Manager immediately popped up to tell me there was an update: 9.1.44.XT926.Verizon.en.US (JB 4.1.1!). Nothing to lose so clicked next to install and waiting, rebooted to a clean JB install but alas, no root.

Going thru the above steps again to start from scratch as we speak.

Great, getting further away from the goal here. Repeated steps 1-3 and now my device won't even root on 4.0.4. I've tried several times to root using the 1.10 utility and even though it claims to succeed in the script my device says otherwise. (Rootchecker fails to get root, can't update binaries, etc.) *SIGH*

Do you have USB debugging enabled in developer options? Also do you have unknown sources checked in security options? Were you able to get the vibration for the bug report?

Yes, yes, and yes. But that's all irrelevant now because I have finally made it to JB 4.1.1 with root. I guess if at first you don't succeed, kill it with repetitiveness. The only thing I did differently in the 4 full attempts thru the process is the last time I used a different account to log into the Google Play Store. Could there actually be some sort of interference from an account that was used previously that was set to be the sync/backup/restore default account?

Either way, all is good now. To anyone who hasn't tried or has but failed once or twice, the key is these steps DO work...even if it doesn't the very first time. AND...the users on this board are damn helpful! Thanks for the help & patience, GoClifGo05 .

Hello everyone, I have a RAZR Maxx HD in route (via Swappa) and it is new and unused. From what I can tell here, even if the phone is already upgraded to JB it seems that I can go back to ICS to root and then upgrade with root keeper. Is that correct?

I am coming from the Rezound and am very excited to have this device.

Thanks!

Yes you can go back. Mattlgroffs utility makes it super easy. Everything you need in one utility.

Here's a quick guide to get to the latest OTA Jelly Bean. Looks like its Official: http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/3...or-droid-razr-hd-and-maxx-hd-as-build-9-1-41/

and, yes, you CAN fastboot back to 0.7.2 after applying this update: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...erizon-new-leak-and-atrix-hd-att-firmwarefxz/

This guide will take you from any current version, back to original factory release, root, and then update to 0.7.2, and then new Jelly Bean.

If you are ALREADY rooted on 0.7.2, then simply do Step 0-1 and 12-22.

Requirements:
1. You have a PC and have the Motorola Drivers installed for your Phone when its plugged in as USB.
2. You have an SD Card for your Phone (yes, you can do this without an SD card, but its not covered in this guide.)

Issues
1. You dont have an SD Card? -- OK, you can do it without, but its not covered here. hint, you need to use adb a little and push the update to the proper location when you dont have an SD card.
2. You dont have the Motorola drivers installed for your Phone? Step 4, or Step 6 failed? --- OK, in that folder, open 'Drivers[REQUIRED]' and run either the 32bit or 64bit version depending on your OS.

You can just accept the ota update now. It's the same thing. Just remember to update super user, make a backup of the updated super user, as in protecting the root after you update super user. And then unroot and update.

Thanks for you reply...I give up on this...After my 4th attempt. I followed the directions, got to the part re: delta blur-found it somewhere else-didnt work and then lost root once again after JB update...Hopefully soon someone will figure out a JB root.

matts utility

Why not just use Matt's utility? So much simpler.

I have tried it...several times. I am not an expert...I have successfully rooted 2 other phones. Just can t figure this one out. I am soo limited with experience..so if instructions are not 100% clear...I won't know what to do to get around it...that is why I am hoping that there will be a jb root.

It doesn't matter if you already have the JB update. The easiest way I have found is to use Matt's utility found here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=33610625

    1. Use option 1 to go back to ICS
    2. Go to settings - about phone and take the 6mb update.
    3. Root using the utility
    4. Install voodoo ota rootkeeper either from the utility or Google play
    5. Open voodoo and protect root
    6. Temporarily unroot.
    7. Take the JB OTA
8 Open voodoo and restore root.

Lol you guys cant just wait less than a week to take the official OTA??? :p

Also just wanted to point out that if anyone else here has the developer edition you don't need to go through this. You can just simply root the JB OTA.

Hell no man 2 days is essentially an eternity when it comes to jelly bean!!
    2
While mass storage is gone.... there is MTP mode... it works exactly the same so stop complaining and use the search feature before whining about it.
No it doesn't work exactly the same. Try using Winamp's sync service in MTP mode... Next time you feel like getting a bit pretentious, shut up instead.

I can't get the OTA to install, it refuses on WiFi and 4G. If I factory reset (after going to 4.0.4) setup and go to system updates without enabling wifi I see the 6 meg update but it fails saying "try again later" ... If I enable WiFi I get no message, then if I disable WiFi it just says "download suspended" I've been at this half the day and can't get the 0.7.2 update. Any ideas?

Here I posted a link to the files last night but the other forum is down. You'll have to flash manually in recovery. Be sure to back up root. Here is the 0.7.2 file. The jelly bean file is in this forum.
