Hemidall, not sure if its spelled right, lol. Probably not. Someone please correct me. Where are you flastnoles? Lmao. Yes it works just as good from what I have heard.

Close, it is spelled Heimdall (you reversed the i and the m - hemi-dall gave me a chuckle)

And on linux, it is at least as reliable as Odin. You can't use Odin tars directly - if a Heimdall package has not been made, then you'll need to extract the Odin tar and manually add each component.

First time users may need up to a half hour of reading to be on the safe side - you don't want to flash, for example, the modem as the kernel, so you'll need to be sure to correctly assign each component. I don't actually know if Heimdall would "just do it" and mess up the device, or if it would call you stupid (I mean, give an error, lol), but I don't want to find out the hard way ;)

Heimdall is correct... but it is flaky for some... I've only used it once... sorry but odin is my god! Lol

Some of the files in this thread are no longer downloadable with out "completing an offer" before they allow you to download it. Here's other working links I found to make life easier.

The OP links to those 2 files are dead since I no longer host for Brief Mobile. If those are the links you are getting some sort of "Complete an Offer" on than I would check your add on's and or scan for adware. The subdomain doesn't resolve to any address and literally links to nothing. I do assume you mean some other links later in this thread but just in case I thought I would let you know.

I apologize my initial post wasn't very clear. When you click on the links posted within this forum they do go no where, but when you click on the SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL.tar.md5.zip link it redirects you to this guide http://briefmobile.com/how-to-install-fc09-for-the-epic-4g, and those links with in the guide ask you to complete an offer. The SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL.tar.md5.zip with in the guide still works though, and doesn't ask you to complete an offer.

Its cool I just wanted to make sure you were alright. Sorry the files are no longer at the original source. BriefMobile started doing it big and while I had the speed I didn't have the bandwidth to keep it going. Best left to those who can finance unmetered lines.

Could always look in my signature for the downloads, and an updated version of Odin. If things seem missing, just PM me and I'll reupload.

    6. Power off the Epic 4G
    7. Put the Epic 4G into “Download Mode” by holding the 1 key and the Power button
    8. Connect the Epic 4G to your computer. Ensure Odin recognizes it. You should see “0:[COM#]” fill in the first box.

    10. Click "PIT" and select "victory_8G_100528.pit"

    12. After it is finished, the Epic 4G will reboot and it will be running FC09 Android 2.3.6. Congratulations!

    Thanks for this!!!

Sorry if this has already been mentioned in the thread, but if this helps anyone, these are the steps I took to ROOT after updating to FC09......

1.) ODIN - CWM5.0.2.7 tar (Place In PDA Slot)
    a.) Auto-Reboot is UNCHECKED
b.) Remove the battery then re-insert the battery

2.) 3-finger to recovery + flash SU.zip (from sd card)

Then boot to system: you're now on rooted stock w/ CWM recovery........

    Next:
1.) Flash your choice of custom ROM through CWM

Might want to update your instructions with info on checking repartition...

But thanks for the file.. will be getting an updated how to unroot video very soon. Might as well do an updated how to root video as well

You can just put the modem.bin into the phone slot of odin.. no need for a tar
