NOUGAT 7.1.2 Port for the Galaxy SL
Howdy y'all.

Android 7.1.2 Nougat has been ported to the Galaxy SL.

Developers work on these projects on their free time! They are not forced to work on this so be nice and respect them.

The development thread is located here: https://xdaforums.com/galaxy-sl/development/rom-omnirom-7-1-2-samsung-galaxy-sl-t3602461.

To quote Technohacker1995:

Things to take a note of

  • This ROM is still a Work In Progress. As such, some features do not work, as listed ahead
  • GApps is NOT RECOMMENDED as there is very low amount of /system partition space
  • Make sure you keep a backup of your files. If flashing from stock, this WILL wipe every partition
  • This ROM does not come with CJK fonts to make it fit in the /system partition. Therefore, Chinese text rendering will be broken
  • This ROM does not come with AOSP WebView or Chromium. They will be offered separately
  • This ROM is not rooted. Flash a root zip manually.

Steps to flash
  • Reboot to Recovery.
  • Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
  • Select the ROM zip from your SD Card and flash.
  • Reboot

Current port is based on Omni ROM, this will be changed to LineageOS soon.

All credit is given to Technohacker1995, and dhiru.

Known Issues

  • To quote Technohacker1995,

    Things that work:
    • WiFi
    • Bluetooth
    • Internal storage
    • Vibrator control
    • Initial Setup
    • Button backlight

    Things that are WIP
    • RIL: Broken on Lineage
    • IMEI baseband
    • Carrier and signal strength was detected on Omni

    Things that are broken:
    • GPS: Has a dependency on RIL
    • Camera2: Crashes on taking a picture
    • FM: Had to be disabled. Will be enabled sooner or later
    • Anything not explicitly stated to work

*The Google Apps package may cause some issues because of limited space, pick a very slim gapps package.

It's in the first line for god's sake.
I am looking at the code that dhiru is currently putting on github.

If u want to create new threads then as u wish. Anyway just for information that Dhiru is able to boot JB whose screenshot I have attached in here. Many things are not wotking which were wotking in cm9. So thats why he has not released yet in public. These updates he puts on facebook but I never post those things here. Because noobs will just ruin the whole thread by asking ETA. Dhiru is working on new hardware drivers released by TI sources which will improve JB UI.

I hope JB discussion will remain in this thread only. If noobs start to flood cm9 development thread then really I am going to report about those silly noobs to moderators.

I already know that he got it to boot before, this thread is basically a discussion thread to actually reduce noob spam volume, the other thread doesn't include anything really, and is out dated.
See the github? changes in the last hours, that's what i am covering here.

In this thread, let them spam till tomorrow, it's the general section and there's no harm in clicking the 'report' button ;)

As this is in earliest alpha phase, will surely need to revert back to CM9 after testing, so for that will we need to start from KPE things or directly CM9 can be flashed ??

Since old thread(3.0 Discussion) is closed,
    Just thought of posting here.

    Don't bug me/dhiru for ETA.
Me and dhiru have been working really hard to make this Kernel work.. and progress has been quite good so far.
Nearly fixed up the USB on 3.0.. So that developers who don't have UART can also contribute.

    What works-

    *Display [Fixed by dhiru] {Tested in recovery mode}
    *Recovery
    *Volume Button, Power Button
    *LEDs (Needs proper testing)
    *HOME Button (Needs testing)
    *Most of the mach-code

    [WIP]

    *Touchscreen
    *Micro USB (Nearly Fixed up)

    What needs to be fixed?
*Almost all of the remaining drivers
    *Making the Kernel boot

Still doesn't boot yet since we haven't added OneNAND support and proper mounts to ramdisk.

    Latest log-

    http://pastebin.com/Wg7T607T

    Sources-
    My github: https://github.com/AdiPat/android_kernel_samsung_latona_3.0/commits/latona-sandbox-3.0
    Dhiru: https://github.com/dhiru1602/android_kernel_samsung_latona/commits/latona-sandbox-3.0

We both are working on same source. Kernel doesn't boot yet. So don't ask for test Kernel.

Since kernel development is in progress.
Is there any possibility for integration of USB OTG feature!!!
    I m asking for possibily.
Not asking anyone to do it.
But its upto them if they wanna do it or not.

Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app

When we are back to fixing USB we will try. We are thinking of using the fsa9480 driver from Galaxy Nexus which supports OTG.
