Random thoughts about Linux...I've been a dedicated Microsoft user since Windows 3.11. I used it mainly for the office applications Excel, Word, Powerpoint but in the last year I've had two additional laptops with different flavors of Linux on them (Ubuntu and Xubuntu) to test the waters of Linux. I'm pretty convinced that I need to get off Microsoft and go with Linux totally.
Here's why: In the last two iterations of Windows starting with 8.0 the OS seems geared not for work or design but for social media. Anyone else think the metro interface is optimized for teenagers that mainly do the social media thing? I like the apps thing on the phone but on my PC? How do you get work accomplished with all the apps blinging at you? I know I installed a start menu program that sends the computer straight to the desktop so I don't have to see the interface. O.K. rant complete. lol.
As for Linux, it's getting better and better. I can do a full install in less than 30 minutes and I have all the functionality I expect from the computer. Not to mention the office packages have come a long way. It's easier to design and build things for me too.
Anyone else feel like jumping ship with me? (You know you want to.)
