I would say one of the biggest is to be able to flash firmware and to be able to downgrade your OS (having the ability to run a ruu that isn't specially made for your device). Also being able to change your mid & cid come in handy a lot. Being able to unlock your bootloader without htcdev. If your into modding, hacking, exploiting then s-off is a must. Oh yeah, to be able to flash custom kernels as well. There's a whole list of stuff

Question 4.4.2 S-Off, latest SU, Sunshine
So, I got my HTC One M8, unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP, Rooted using SuperSu then I used Sunshine to S-Off and unlock my phone.

Now, I want to install the new OTA update to 4.4.3.

I want to use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2755657 so I can receive the official OTA.

After I reinstall the stock recovery and install the OTA update, do I need to run Sunshine again on my device to unlock it? Do I need to pay 25$ again to unlock my phone?

No and no. As long as you dont S-ON your device, you'll stay S-OFF. And you only have to pay again if you have a completely new phone. Or you logic board gets replaced in case of repair.

Its right there in the message, your ROM/kernel is not supported.

You need a (near to) stock rom for it to work.
Viper is far away from that. Search the thread for working roms.

We recommend saying s-off, however you should not need to repay as long as the device is already licensed.

Thumbs up
I had a Firewater friendly M8 that I just traded via the HTC advantage deal and of course on the new device I get whelp. Bought Sunshine and it worked no problem and quickly too. Expensive but I'm S-off and unlocked again. Flashed TWRP via fastboot, restored my CM11 backup from the first phone. I'm happy.

For any one else who goes this route, who doesn't know, TWRP stores backups in a DIR name based on the device serial. So new device will not see your old backup until you a) create a new backup with TWRP and b) move your old backup under the newly created DIR (named according to the new device's serial).

Anywho, thx Jcase [edit] and Beaups!
