Hey all, haven't seen anything like this so I figured I'd post it. I bought one of the 29 dollar 32GB sd cards on ebay just to do a test. It was listed as 100% new in packaging 32 GB sacn disk micro sd card. I figured it was a fake but knew I could get my $$ back via paypal. Anyway I used a program called h2testw, some of you probably have heard about it but for those who haven't here is a short write up on it and a download link.

Basically it fills the card with known data then tries to read it back. here is what I got back when testing the "32GB" card from ebay. As you can see 1GB was written and read the other 31gb was lost, because there wasn't anything written as the card was only a 1GB. Below is the text output from h2testw. Was trying to put in the screenshot from the actual program but i guess I can't figure out how to do that. It should also be noted I ras a bench test with atto bench 32 and got fine 7 write and 14 read speeds. I'll try to insert that image also. Hopefully this will help somebody out if they think they have a bad card.

The media is likely to be defective.

I appreciate the information I am currently running this test. It seems to be taking a looooong time. I purchased a 32 gb memorette on ebay and after recieving an email from another ebayer that he also purchased the same card and found it is only 4gb with this tester, I decided to test mine after having some pictures corrupted and lost. Time remaining says 2hrs 31 min just wondering if this is normal.

Cool I was looking for a good memory test. I am skeptical since because most are not good. Linux uses qmem86 which is good but it does take.about 1 hour per gb on a good desktop I am thinking it would.be worth trying to compile for android.

Ill test these out and see how well that do...Hoping they are at least as fast as the Transcend & sandisk 8 gigers I already own..

I tested my card on a different way and verified with the program in OP.

External SD-card: Kingston 32GB Class 10
Format: FAT32
Seller: eBay

I had an mkv-file of near 10GB. I cutted in 3 pieces: 2 x 4gb and 1 x 2gb: file1.mkv / file2.mkv / file3.mkv. These 3 files played on my PC without any issues.

Step 1: I transferred all 3 the files. First file1.mkv was transferred, then 2 and 3. I only could play file1.mkv.

Step 2: Formatted again to FAT32. I transferred all 3 the files. First file2.mkv was transferred, then 1 and 3. I only could play file2.mkv.

Step 3: Formatted again to FAT32. I transferred all 3 the files. First file3.mkv was transferred, then 2 and 3. I only could play file3.mkv.

Step 4-5-6: Formatted again to FAT32. I transferred only one file each time respectively file1.mkv / file2.mkv / file3.mkv. And each time each file played without any problem.

I verified it with the program in OP.

Conclusion: SD card is not 32GB, but 4GB ;)

So, wait, you bought a "32 gig" card, how much did you spend on this marvel of technology? Also, how do you know the program you used works as stated? Did you format it in a windows machine?

Just curious.

Did you read the first post?

Thanks for this I just bought a supposed 32GB class10 Samsung memory card off my phone. I did a best offer of 24$ with free shipping....from China....
Gonna see what this test says.
Would like to have two programs to make a comparison and see what the results are.

A quick and simple way of getting an indication if a SD card is suspect is just to read the SD card configuration information (CID / CSD) from the card. It appears that more work goes into creating fake packaging for bad cards than goes into programming the card itself.

There is no UI for this but there is a many programs for Android such as SD Insight (search for it on Google Play) that can decode and display this information.

This can not replace an extensive media test but it is much faster and more convenient for most people.
