It's possible they won't... but they seem to have pretty much tied the z and zl phones together...

Exactly...

In testing (wanted t-mobile voip calling) I tried flashing the tmo-4.2.2 image on my phone (minus baseband) and it worked fine - well... except for that little matter of it burning battery because the screen was one all the time...
