Searching Contacts in Maps or Google Search no longer works?

As the subject stated, entering ANY name (first, last) in either app doesn't work. Nothing displayed.

I have included Contact in Google Search settings, use the same Google account for both apps, but to no avail.

Can anyone assist?

Although I have set Contacts syncing, per Google help page, I did not sync "People Details".

Anyone know if this is the reason? I don't want to start syncing this off it is not necessary, as i don't want to share my contact address outside of my Google accounts.
