U have gingerbread rom, but uploaded only framework-res.apk.
So kitchen treated your request as froyo rom.
U need to upload framework and systemui

One final question mendozinas. For the theme chooser option, do we upload the apk, then the kitchen will replace that with a newly cooked apk?

Sent from my HTC HD2

You upload your own files, kitchen modify it, and change package name, after u install it - u will have separate theme.
You can rename apk before uploading, you will have that name in theme chooser menu.

I did it using greybread, works fine. I can't seem to get a transparent/25% background working though.
Yeah, I couldn;t get that to work either.
I can get the statusbar to go transparent but only when using a live wallpaper. But the rest of the notification area just will not go transparent at all.

I can attest that it works for the Motorola Defy - I was using it last night (ie ~24 hours before these posts) and it was fine - well, there were a couple of teething problems but they were caused by my own incompetence.

@mendozinas: first up, I'd like to thank and congratulate you for this excellent resource you've provided us all with.

Secondly, I realise you have a lot of people here asking for help and advice and improvements and I don't really want to add to that but I have one tiny wee niggle with the way the Kitchen works with the Motorola Defy.
The battery only shows in 10% steps.

Now I realise this is due to Motorola's God-awful software implementation but there is a gentleman over in the Defy section who has developed an app that displays the battery level in 1% steps, so clearly the necessary information is contained within the handset somewhere.
He's also working on making the app compatible with other Motorola handsets such as the Milestone.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was any chance that his work could be incorporated into the Kitchen/combined with your custom battery meters?
I'm not at all au fait with the technicalities of such a request and there are probably a-hundred-and-one reasons why this isn't possible but I kinda have to ask...

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

twist my nipple nuts and call me Susan!

I go off sick for a few days and everything changes!

Last I heard, I was asking about themes and I come back and it's a new feature! - wow! tyvm :)

Now, on to business, the "how-it-works-fer-me" report..

I uploaded everything, took a couple of restarts in the theme window but we got there. Files came back down okay, booted up and the system files had't applied but the themed ones had.
Tried again and the cooked file was significantly bigger, applied, booted, still no system files while the themes were fine.
One more shot.
As the themed files were fine, I left them alone and sent off the framework and systemui - they came back, I applied, booted and the system icons had changed.
The themes were already there, so everything was happy.

All I have in the way of possible glitches are:
upload of themes was erratic/slow/needed restarted - no biggie

when applying the themes, it comes up with a warning saying bits are missing, but if you apply it anyway, it works - think it's just the picture of the theme in the selection screen that's missing, again, no biggie

I am soooo impressed - am wondering what you will come up with next?

concerns..

Couple of negatives, first off i love the concept and enjoy the process..

My few downfalls are that I chose the "brightsilence" background, I chose the custom text in the header, I also tried to set the background as transparent and none of it stuck, also the bootanimation "AndroidGlow" would not go away, every bootanimation i tried to install after that one wouldn't take..

Any suggestion? or are these all known bugs??

I have a G2 running CM7 RC2 and use the cyanbred apk from theme chooser to apply it with..

I tried a quick one to see if it worked. Just selected some new icons for the task bar. Copied Cyanbreak.asp and uploaded it. Flashed the file the kitchen gave me and all was good.

I've tried to do a transparent bar a few times today. I'm guessing it's not supported in CM7 RC2. All I get are icons over other icons or what looks like multiple layers of text. Nothing transparent about it. Reboot after selecting it in Theme Chooser and same garbage in the status bar. Select another theme or the original one I made, the status bar goes back to normal. I've tried building for a copy of the original cyanbreak.apk and the first one I've made. Shows up Theme Chooser just fine under the correct name but no luck on having the transp. status bar. I also tried the other way uploading framework-res and systemui. Same results.

Any ideas? I've wiped cache/dalvik before flashing. Nandroid back to original setup and then flashed, etc. Nothing seemed to work.

Kitchen update

New feature added:

Status bar mod
Enable transparency in status bar

this feature works only with Gingerbread roms. You should upload framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk.

sounds great - does this get past the bit where the date notification bar shows under/over/through the status notification bar?

if that doesn't make sense, just tell me to try it and find out :)

thanks for your continued efforts - most sites seem to say " there, that'll do" but you keep coming up with more :)

please, test it as I have sense rom for everyday-use.
as I understand this patch should just enable transparent/semi-transparent images (made in kitchen) in statusbar and (hoping so) in notify drop-down.

    How kitchen works

Kitchen originally was build for HTC Desire, but now it supports most devices with Android OS.
Kitchen takes files from your rom and adds modifications you choose.
It works for most custom deodexed roms: Froyo (2.2) and Gingerbead (2.3).
You can use kitchen with stock odexed roms (if you have .odex files in your rom - kitchen works for you too)

    How to use kitchen

    1. Go to Kitchen page http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/

    2. Browse through available mods and choose what you need (don't forget to press Generate preview if theris such button)

    3. Go to File upload section and upload your files or choose rom from kitchen's list (most roms in the list is for HTC Desire)

    Files needed to upload:
    Froyo rom: framework-res.apk
    Gingerbread rom: framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
Gingerbread with sense rom: framework-res.apk, SystemUI.apk and com.htc.resources.apk
Cyanogenmod7 rom: Cyanbread.apk or Androidian.apk or any theme for ThemeChooser (rename as you like it to apear in theme menu)

NOTE 1: if you uploading theme apk - do not upload any other files (you just waisting trafic, because kitchen will ignore additional files)

NOTE 2: Font packs and Bootanimation do not requires uploading files.

    4. Go to Summary section. All choosed mod must be in green background. If there is mod in red background - it means you did not finished it.

    press Submit work to kitchen

    5. Remember UOT file name. You can wait for a kitchen to cook your request, but after 5min waiting will be stopped (nothing to worry about).

    6. Go to Pickup page http://uot.dakra.lt/pickup/ and wait for your file to appear (it can take up to 30min or more)

    7. Download UOT zip into SD card of your phone

    8. Reboot into recovery

    9. Wipe cache and dalvik-cache (just in case). Do not make factory reset.

    10. Flash UOT zip

    11. Reboot phone

    How get files for kitchen

    Check your How-to page

What to do of the UOT-......... ZIP file

    1. Reboot into recovery.
    2. choose "install zip from sdcard"
    3. choose "choose zip from sdcard"
    4. locate your file UOT-... .zip in SD
    5. confirm "YES - install UOT ... .zip"
    6. wait for script to finish
    7. reboot phone

If you cooked file for ThemeChooser - you can unzip UOT and install apk as regular one. After that - select new theme in Theme Chooser and reboot phone.

WARNING! Flash UOT file after you have first boot.
If you flashed new rom, boot up your phone first time
and after that reboot into recovery to flash UOT file.

What to do if you get SHTF error

Kitchen uses inteligent approach to your files and tryes to fix most of errors, but sometimes apk tools fails to recompile your files and kitchen can't do nothing.
If you get SHTF error and want to ask for help in forum - please, mention UOT file name and ROM or Theme you are using. Also, telling your device will be very helpfull.

If you using popular ROM/Theme - you can try to cook our corrected framework-res.apk from the list.

    • We are not responsible for any damage that occurs to your device by the use of the themes created here though if such an unfortunate event occurs do tell us we'll be happy to help
    • There is a lot more to come in the near future like changing the status bar, icons, notification screen, the popups etc etc.
    • Suggestions are welcomed for future releases.

So iwent through the whole process and uploaded the cyanbread theme apk. from theme chooser, it completed the upload but when I go to "pick-up" section how do I identify which file is mine?

the "file upload" sevction did give a UOT-xx-xx-xx-x to identify exactly which file is the one I created..

    Thanks
u must submit work in "Summary" section - after that you will get UOT name.
    17
It might have been a bug but it was a welcomed one! Please bring it back!
Seriously, is there any way to implement it? The known method (editing notification_config.txt) doesn't solve the problem, it creates an empty space (see attachment). I'm sure I'm not the only one who would use it.
    TIA.
this can be hard to complete.
removing this mod can cause FC's as system still tryes to use it.
will see what can be done.
