I dont know if it makes a difference but you have a MTK6582 processor.what are you trying to do root.?
I have also a MTK6582 device and droid tools could not root it although i could do a backup.
I used tool 2 in this tutorial and it worked..its very strange in Chinese
Code:
blog.geekbuying.com/index.php/2013/11/18/w450-mtk6582-quad-core-smart-phone-root-tool-and-method/#.UuDrORBFDX4
but you just press root etc.This rooted my MTK6582 device.

Vroot worked like a charm.
my S9500 equiped MTK6582 has been successfully rooted :)
The chinese stuff is pretty weird but you can use MTKDroid Tools afterwards to get rid of the chineses crap off your phone.
Thank you for the link sas007.
Now for some nice rom(s) and carefull flashing.

Caution "agold_cheat_evaluating_software.xml" S9500

@IvanSantosPT O.P

Thanks very much for the great tutorials.had a bit of bother with device due to the fact it was actually a MTK6582 and not MTK6589 it had a cheat file in system/etc "agold_cheat_evaluating_software.xml" turns out mine is 1300mhz cpu not 1200mhz
but got there in the end.rooted and installed CM recovery changed DPI (changed to 220dpiI i found 195 a little too small for me) and done a backup...
so many thanks.

I Rooted the device with Eroot 2 option here.remembering this was for a MTK 6582 device but you could also use option 1 for MTK6589 i have successfully rooted a mtk6589 device with this.dead easy no hassle.But follow tutorial first and use these if you get no joy.

blog.geekbuying.com/index.php/2013/11/18/w450-mtk6582-quad-core-smart-phone-root-tool-and-method/#.UuDrORBFDX4

1.download on your pc the zip file attached and unpack it
2.launch eroot_v1.3.4.exe
3.enable USB debugging on your smartphone (settings>developer options)
4.connect your mobile phone to your pc
5.click on the green "root" button

Enjoy your rooted device

P.S Anyone worked out how to get the LED to show for missed text and calls etc.??

WCDMA 900

hello, I have a S9500 with a lot of tweaks to look like Samsung S4 - even the processor is seen by CPUZ as Exynox octa core :) > MobileUncle is telling me that i have a MT6589 chipset and as far as i;ve seen on the internet is should work in WCDMA 900. Still my version is not working on this band, in this respect i'm trying to figure out if the ROM;s from here have supported the WCDMA 900 band.

baseband version MOLY.WR8.W1248.MD.WG.MP.V6

I followed all instructions until the step using MTK Droid Root & Tools v2.4.8
Here the phone information was displayed correctly, but on the 'root, backup, recovery' tab the buttons 'SuperUser' 'Buildprop' and 'Delete china' were greyed out. What could be the problem ?

My phone is Star S9500 (MTK 6589), Android 4.2.2, Model number 2206_jbla768_f, build number 2206_jbla768_f_2013_12_26

Hilo de soporte para Star S9500 (Español)

Hilo de soporte para el Star S9500 ESPAÑOL

Temas:
Herramientas esenciales
Instalación de drivers
  • ¿Cómo ser ROOT?
  • ¿Cómo eliminar las aplicaciones chinas?
  • ¿Cómo cambiar la DPI de la pantalla?
  • ¿Cómo instalar CWM?
  • ¿Cómo hacer una copia de seguridad?
  • ¿Cómo flasear con la ROM de serie?

Herramientas esenciales

Notepad++
Drivers
MTKDroidTools
SP Flash Tool v3.1312.0.139
17/05/2013 Official Stock ROM

Instalando los drivers

Driver precarga

Yo he escogido el SuperSU.
Ahora tenemos nuestro dispositivo ROOT.

Vamos a comenzar.

ro.sf.lcd_density=240
tkxy.jpg

owut.jpg

Cambiando la DPI

Ahora podemos hacer un truco con MTKDroidTools.
Ir a la carpeta MtkDroidTools, y editar el archivo build_prop_replace.txt.
Dentro debe de tener este código:
Código:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240

Haga clic en To use boot from phone y haga clic en el botón Recovery and Boot.

Hi every one :)

I have many problems with my Star S9500 Mtk6582.

I flashed to 4.2.2 r Rom from Needrom and I had no problems a long time. One day, I don't know why, but each option with Usb cable stopped. No options with Debbuging mode or copy/paste. When I connected Usb cable from my Computer to my phone just "charger has been linked" and there isn't another connection between them except the charger option. It means - the pc can't recognize that my device is connected.
Near one week later the loudspeaker stopped too. No sound for music, movie, no sound for alarms and call.

I tried to hard reset and before did it I made back up. When I did it I find that hard reset didn't solve the problem with the usb connection and the loudspeaker

Then I tried to re-flash with Flash Tools and I looked that I have problem with drivers. They were gone! I don't know how.

Then I tried so many times to resolve the driver's problems with downloading and installing another drivers, but in driver option menu there is an information something like "this device can't work properly(code 10)" for each Installing driver.

After all these situation I decided, very stupidly to format by CWM everything in my phone and then to restore last backup, but when did it, I gave to format sd-card, because I thought that this option is for internal memory, not for external sd-card... :crying:

So...I am in this situation. I haven't back up, the pc can't recognize my device I haven't drivers, my phone is formated and hasn't OS and what I have is just CWM :)))))

So...if it's possible, can you tell me, what can I do now to reflash?
I have an idea.

If any one has a back up in zip format let's send the file to me to try to install by CWM or it wouldn't work?

Thanks in advance.

p.s: Sorry for my English, dudes :)

Support thread for Star S9500

Topics:
  • Essential tools;
  • Installing drivers
  • How to ROOT;
  • How to remove China Apps;
  • How to change screen's DPI;
  • How to install CWM;
  • How to make a backup;
  • How to flash with stock ROM;
  • Solving Messages app BUG (tomorrow I will post);
  • Solving any GPS issues (tomorrow I will post);
  • Changing the Launcher (tomorrow I will post);
  • Changing the Resolution up to 960p (tomorrow I will post).

Essential tools

Here is a list with download links for some indispensable tools:

Installing Drivers

Preloader

We will start with the Preloader driver, which is the trouble one.
First of all, shutdown the Phone.
Go to the Start Menu, right click in the Computer, and click Manage. Then go to the Device Manager.
Now you need to be quick! Connect the Phone to the computer via USB cable, and when appears MT65xx Preloader as unknown driver, right click in the device, Update Device, select the second option, select the folder mt65xx+preloader+drive that you downloaded and check the Include Subfolders option. Now let it install. Once installed, it will disappear, that's the reason that I said to be quick. The Preloader disconnects when the device is not in use and goes to charging mode.
Now you can turn on the device.

ADB Driver

This is the easy one. Connect the phone in debugging mode, and in the Device Manager it will appear another driver to install.
This time you only need to select the MTK_USB_ Driver folder and it will install!

How to ROOT

Download the MTKDroidTools which is in the Essential tools section, create a folder and extract the files.
If the drivers are installed and the device is in debugging mode, it will appear a green block at bottom left side like this:

kixm.jpg

Go to root, backup, recovery section, then click on SuperUser option. Click on YES to every option that will show up. You can select SuperSU app or the SuperUser app. I selected the SuperSU. Now click on Reboot at bottom right corner
Now you have your device rooted!

How to remove China Apps

In the same section as in the ROOT tutorial, you this time click in Delete china.

How to change the screen's DPI

Preparing the scenary

This gives a better look to the screen and it will look like Galaxy S4.
I changed the DPI because of the 240 DPI to 480x854 screen is so huge that hurts my eyes, and I have so small space to the apps!

We will prepare the work to you don't manually edit anymore the build.prop file, just this time.
So, lets begin. You need ROOT to do this!
Open the Root Explorer, go to the system folder, keep the finger at the build.prop file and select Copy.

yr2t.jpg

Now go back to the root (/), go to the sdcard folder and select Paste.

m3nf.jpg

Now connect the phone to the Computer and enable the USB file transfer.
Go to the phone internal memory by your Computer, and edit the build.prop file with Notepad++ to preserve the Unix Style of the text. Go to the end and add the following line:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240

tkxy.jpg

Save the file. We have set the DPI to 240, but we will change it later in an easier way.
Now let's put the file back to the phone.
Go to Root Explorer and go to the /sdcard directory. Now press the build.prop file and click the Move option. Go back to root, go to the system folder, click in Mount R/W and click in Paste. Overwrite the file.

owut.jpg

Changing the DPI

Now we can do the trick with the MTKDroidTools.
Go to MtkDroidTools folder, and edit the build_prop_replace.txt file.
It must have this code inside:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
You can change to a DPI between the 120 and 320 I think. Higher the DPI, higher the icons, less space for them.
You can calculate here the right DPI for your screen:
http://pxcalc.com/

Insert the data just like I did:

3n5k.jpg

Seems like the right DPI to the screen is 195 DPI.
You can test this inserting the 1080x1920 resolution with 5 inch. If it gives us 440 DPI, that is the correct DPI from Galaxy S4 specs from GSMArena.

Now change the 240 value to 195:

1ctf.jpg

Save the file and go to MTKDroidTools.
Go to the root, backup, recovery section and click in build.prop option.
Then click Reboot to reboot the device.

74u0.jpg

Compare here the difference between 240 DPI (left) and 195 DPI (right) screen:

Now when you want to change DPI you only need to do this steps.

How to install CWM

To install CWM on the phone, open the MTKDroidTools and go to the root, backup, recovery section.
Click on To use boot from phone and click the Recovery and Boot button.
Now click Yes to every option.
Now you can access to CWM recovery by pressing Volume Up + Home + Power, and the Volume Down + Home + Power stock recovery is still working.

How to make a backup

To backup you whole ROM, open the MTKDroidTools and go to the root, backup, recovery section.
If you want to backup your personal data to a personal backup, check the Backup userdata and cache box (I don't think it is recoverable, it didn't worked for me).
If you want to create only a ROM only with ROOT, do not check any box.
Now click in Backup and wait a few minutes. If it asks to pack the ROM, click Yes.
Now click in To create updates for modified recovery and select the files.md5 file inside backup folder.
The backup is complete. It is in the backup folder, and works with SP Flash Tool and CWM.

How to flash with stock ROM

Be sure that you have CWM installed and the preloader drivers succefully installed!
Turn off your phone and start with CWM (Volume Up + Home + Power). Click in wipe data/factory reset and YES, the same for wipe cache partition and go to advanced. Now click in Wipe Dalvik Cache and do YES, the same for Wipe Battery State. Go back.

sgk1.jpg

Open the SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1312.0.139 folder and open Flash_tool.exe.
Click on Scatter-loading button. Go to the 20130517_e2006_v89_jbla768_asx folder and select the MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file. Be sure that you have all the options selected like in the print.

Now this is a very quick step! In the main CWM menu in the phone, click in reboot system now.
Now go to the Smart Phone Flash Tool window. When the Windows makes the hardware inserted sound, you must click in the Firmware -> Upgrade option. If you hear the sound of hardware disconnected before the tool does it job, you must restart your phone and do this again.

If the Flash tool flashed the cellphone successfully, it will auto boot as the first time.
This means that you did the trick!

This thread will be updated to add more tutorials as requested or if I need to add something.
I will notify with a comment to the thread.

Star N9500-6582

I also have a major problem with that phone. It was on its way from China before I read that this phone has malware. Got rid of the Play Store. Rooted the phone with vroot. Then installed CWM recovery thats featured here.Did full wipes and installed a custom rom. Now the phone will not boot up. I'm getting a grey blank screen and after 3 secs a black screen. The phone is turningon and off.

How can I get it to boot correctly?

Help with Start S9500 - Speaker / factory reset / drivers install

Hi;

I need your help... I have a Star S9500 (model 2206_jbla768_f) that neither the speaker, neither the microphone work (both work fine is using the headphones).

Just as information, I rooted sometime ago the device with framarootm and changed the start-up logo just by replacing the /system/media/bootanimation.zip file.

As I need the speaker+microphone, I've though on reseting the mobile, in case any driver/something has become corrupted, so, I've used the google "Factory reset" and also started the mobile with power + volume down => Clear eMMC, however, the mobile is not reseted to factory defaults, due to that the initial logo is still the same I set in bootanimation.zip and the mobile is still rooted, so, looks like the mobile is not completely cleared, and the sound is still not working via speakers...

I've also tried to follow your instructions to install the drivers - Preloader, but when I connect the mobile to the computer, the mobile charges, as expected, but I get no communication with the computer at all (on device manager, nothing appears when connecting the device, neither the "MT65xx Preloader" is not shown, so, I cannot continue following the instructions).

So, I don't know what to do... I just want to have back the speaker and microphone, so, should I go to troubleshoot the mobile factory reset to get the mobile fully reseted, should I try to troubleshoot the communication with the computer to install the drivers commented on this page,... Would you have any suggestion about what should I try?

Thanks!

Start S9500 - altavoz / microfono / factory reset / drivers

Hola Ivan / tod@s;

Gracias!

    Code:
    ro.sf.lcd_density=240

    Changing the DPI

    Now we can do the trick with the MTKDroidTools.
    Go to MtkDroidTools folder, and edit the build_prop_replace.txt file.
    It must have this code inside:
    Code:
    ro.sf.lcd_density=240
