i've been following this update drama since it started to roll out. Clearly, there are more than 3 people got their tab "bricked" ( maybe they can unbricked in future when kernel source come out) and you are the 1st one

). However , there are also 2-3 people got their tab updated successfully. As far as i understand:
*** People got their tab bricked: used older twrp version=> flash the update (OTA file or official file ) and it was a bad flash => couldn't boot => tried to boot into recovery to reflash/restore ...but the new update already change the partition layout, that cause twrp can't not work anymore=> no way to flash anything=> bricked
***People got their tab updated successfully : also used older twrp version=> flash the update (OTA file or official file ) and it was a good flash=> tab could boot up and run normally=> however, they can't flash twrp (any version older than 2.4.4.0) because none of them worked=> no custom recovery means no root
*************
today, with new twrp 2.4.4.0 coms out which is compatible with new 4.2.1 update, people can flash it and install supersu to get root.
==> so my point is, if i flash twrp 2.4.4 before i flash update , then if i have a bad flash, i still have a working custom recovery to flash my backup or reflash rom...
