I attached a log file to a post (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...&postcount=146), and the image/thumbnail for the file gets a 404 https://forum.xda-cdn.com/images/attach/log.gif

I let it ride for a few days, but it still gets a 404 today.

Weird because I don't get 404 on my end for *.log files

Would you mind post a screenshot regarding your issue?

Maybe its because I am running on the desktop (which makes no sense as having an effect...)

This first image is what is seen in Chrome when viewing the thread

If I try to open the image in a new tab (https://forum.xda-cdn.com/images/attach/log.gif), I get:

If I try pasting that URL into a TOR browser, I get the exact same result as the image above.
Are you referencing the exact same URL? I tried jpg and png and that didn't help either.

I also tried changing log.gif to zip.gif, and it displayed the image correctly. Both in Chrome and the TOR browser.

That works on desktop using my computer too so it's not the culprit. And yes I tried the exact same url: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...&postcount=146

Did you try CTRL F5?

I have no clue why it is not fixed on your end

I was actually speaking of the URL directly to the gif, but, it all just works for you.

I hadn't before, but trying it now, makes no difference. I also am suspicious it was in my cache, but that would not of shown up as an issue in the TOR browser. Is it easy for you to check in a TOR browser?

Another thing I tried, to try and skip the cache, is the following URL https://forum.xda-cdn.com/images/attach/log.gif?a=b and that also fails. But again, works perfectly if I change it to zip.gif.

I also just tried typing the image URL on a phone browser, which I have never viewed XDA on (ie no cache), and I also get the above search/failure 404 page.

OK I can now reproduce your issue even using Chrome, the culprit is not our respective configurations, it is the used XDA theme!
Using Chrome on my PC:

1- your URL has 404 error: https://forum.xda-cdn.com/images/attach/log.gif

2- the URL I personally get when I open a thumbnail on a new tab is: https://cdn-cf-1.xda-developers.com/...attach/log.gif

You can see your URL and my URL are not the same, it is different because we do not use the same XDA theme.

2015 and 2015 dark theme have no issue regarding the thumbnails but the other themes have it (for instance I tried 2010 and 2013 themes and I get the 404 error like you). I will report it to the server admin.

Thanks!
