Let me be more clear, this will work on AT&T's 3.5g and not just edge?

That would put this phone plus a $3 ebay unlock as the best straight talk deal out there for those using said MVNO. Significantly better than any sub $200 offering from Straight Talk.

EDIT- i know that you can get BYOP sims for ST using tmobile bands anyway, but in our area the AT&T bands are significantly faster. I usually get about 600k down 500k up on tmobile "4g" while on AT&T towers when i had ST i was getting about 2100k down and 1200k up

That is slow lol. Well 1900 is an att band(and tmobile-refarmed) so yea you shouldn't just get edge if unlocked

Incorrect. If an AT&T sim is inserted into an unlocked P769BK and the device is in a 1900Mhz umts/hspa AT&T area the device "Will" have 3G+ speeds.

I thought I understood what you wrote. My apologies if I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that the P769 will not be able to receive AT&T 3G. According to the technical specs and my own testing it will be able to receive 3G on AT&T. If I am misinterpreting, please ignore me. :)

Nice little way to save power also there was an option to have it only connect to the internet when an app calls for it. Course there are also like a hundred apps out there that do the same thing.

I really hate what I saw there... I wish I could install CM to my LG L9 II and get rid of those scary monitors

Holly Cow! I can change the WCDMA (4G) Band!

I just changed it to 1900Mhz. This is good for people who are in areas that are overloaded on the Band 4 1700Mhz/21Mhz.

This is also good for checking if an iPhone or any AT&T phone would have 3G/4G in your area. Here is how I did it:

1.) Enter this code in your phone dialer: 3845#*769#

    2.) Select "Network Mode"

3.) Remove the check from "Automatic".

    4.) Select "WCDMA frequency bands"

    5.) Select "WCDMA 1900"

If you want to go back to the original band select "WCDMA AWS" and then check "Automatic" in the previous screen.

According to the hidden menus the T-Mobile P769BK may work on these frequencies:

    WCDMA/HSPA/UMTS: 850 900 AWS(1700/2100) 1900 2100

    GSM: 850 900 1800 1900

P769BK has 10 point multitouch and maybe more. I ran out of fingers after 10. :p

To check which band your phone is currently connected to in the service menu do this:

    1.) Go to "Modem Settings"

    2.) Go to "Engineering Mode"

On the first screen it will show"

    RAT:

    Band:

If Band is UMTS_FDD there is no signal. Mine shows UMTS_BAND_II which is 1900Mhz.

This band is much faster than band 4 1700/2100Mhz when doing a speed test. :D

what band do you recommened since i guess i dont get 1900 here? AWS has always been slow here for some reason, but after trying 1900 and then going back it sped up a little bit!

Since you are on T-Mobile, AWS(1700/2100) & 1900 are the only 3G bands available.

The reason why you notice your download speed getting faster after switching back to AWS is because you disconnected and reconnected to the network.
You get priority over every other device that has been connected longer. It is a shortcoming of T-Mobile's network since way back when they started as VoiceStream.
You can do the same thing by going to airplane mode for a few seconds and then disabling airplane mode.

    Check 3845#*769# :)
