Hope most of you people know about changing DPI stuffs, if somebody is new to DPI mods and stuffs then lets have a small explanation here
So what is DPI?
Every android device has a stock dpi(Dots Per Inch) value based on the screen size and resolution. Devices like galaxy s2 has a stock dpi of 240, s3 has 320 and the value increases based on the screen resolution. The DPI values tells android how much pixel it should cover on the actual screen.
Why should i change DPI?
Though most of the people are comfortable with bigger icons,texts and windows many people consider it as a waste of space. With a big screen display in hand its better to have more space on screen so that the screen can hold more data.
So lower DPI values gives you more screen space to work.
What happens when i change DPI?
Once you change your DPI, all the content on your screen looks smaller and thus giving a HD look. Simply imagine this example, what happens to your screen on your pc when you change the screen resolution from 1280 x 720 to say 1920 x 1080. Changing DPI reproduces the same effect on android.
How to change DPI?
There are many apps in the market that allows you to change DPI, i prefer manual method which is pretty simple.
1.Install root explorer.
2.Goto system folder in root.
3.Open build.prop in text editor.
4. Find the line
ro.sf.lcd.density=320(Or whatever DPI you want)
You can see the difference in the above screen shot, the image on the left side is taken with stock 480 dpi, the image on the right side is taken with 320 DPI
Downside of changing DPI?
Though all 3rd party apps work fine with modded DPI some stock apps wont scale properly on the screen which will look annoying. Hence the reason for this thread to fix the unscaled apps.
