That...doesn't sound like a tmobile gs4, it sounds like a sprint/verizon variant. You should see:
LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect)
GSM/WCDMA (auto connect)
GSM only
WCDMA only

Download advanced tools pro and open up system manager section then at the bottom of screen click on "special" Once the menu opens click on phone information then scroll down and change the band to lte only or wcdma only or whatever you want then close app. I have mine on LTE only and it works great.

I found a solution. You can't do this through the settings of the phone.
But there is an app - it's called Intelli3G.
It's primary function is to switch cell connection from "fast mode" (for example LTE) to "slow mode" 2g (GPRS) when connected to wifi network (to conserve battery) and vice versa.

But what is interesting - you can configure specifically what it is "fast mode" and "slow mode".
You can configure the "fast mode" to be "LTE/WCDMA" (see screenshot below). And simply disable "slow mode". This way when the app is running it will keep the phone on "LTE / WCDMA" without going to slower modes.
It keeps a notification in the drawer, but you can hide the notification through the android app manager (the page where you kill/remove/delete cache of the app).
