LATEST: Reports of DROID MAXX/ULTRA Kit Kat Update Bricking Phones Arrive, Update Pulled for Now?
People have had success with this update but obviously this will not be the final version. Once again update at your own risk.

Here is the Droid Maxx's 4.4 OTA zip that can be installed on locked and unlocked bootloaders. Others have confirmed you can use this on Ultra/Mini but you do so at your own risk. I am not responsible for unfavorable outcomes.

1) download file
2) extract
3) Move file to /sdcard
4) rename to update.zip
5) put phone in recovery

* shutdown
* hold power + vol down (15 secs) to fastboot
* choose recovery (press vol down)
* press vol up to boot stock recovery
MINI/ULTRA: You may have to hold vol up and then hit the power button
* choose "apply update from sdcard"
* choose update.zip
6) flash update.zip
7) phone will reboot like nothing happened
8) put back in to recovery
9) flash again
10) now you have Kit Kat once it reboots again

Very little description in your title, is this for the dev edition, or the Verizon edition?

They're the same. It can be installed on either one. However if you have root it will most likely take it away. If you have a non-stock recovery it will fail. This is pretty much for a stock Droid Maxx that is from Verizon or a dev edition. You can open the zip and modify the update script to ignore the system checks and skip over the recovery. I suggest you make a backup before attempting that.

I believe it reboots into the new recovery so it can install all the files. I don't believe KK is compatible with JB recovery

If you don't have a dev edition you can try adb sideload. idk if you do update.zip in your root "SD Card" if it'll update anymore. Best way is to have an after market recovery and mod the zip to ignore your recovery. Make a backup before attempting that method.

Bootloader and recovery updates applied before the main system.

Can anyone confirm that adb sideload works on unrooted with stock recovery?
