So recently i noticed that my headphone jack doesn't work anymore. When i play sound, sound comes out of the speakers. But when i plug in my headphones, i can hear static when i'm wearing the headphones. I'm still not sure if the jack itself is broken or if there is a software issue. I want to make sure if it's really necessary to buy a new jack because i don't want to waste money and time ordering one...

I had the same problem. Mine was caused by catching my headphone wiring on a chair as I walked by. I had to replace the headphone jack. The job is not bad. You will need a few special tools. I bought a 23 piece cell phone tool repair kit on eBay from a vendor[cenyonline on eBay] in China. Nice set of tools for $2.99 [including shipping] . Use the "how to tear down your Captivate" article & videos located here. See

I bought the headphone jack for $2.99 [with shipping] from vendor mega-shops on eBay.

FYI, problems with the speaker on common on Captivates. I replaced mine [$7 from vendor on eBay] to no avail. My problem turned out to be a bad connection of the ribbon cable for the speaker. That ribbon cable mounts onto the board which holds the SIM card and the microUSB card. I got that from another eBay vendor [vivid-own] for $3.59 including shipping from China.
