UPDATE : ISSUED YESTERDAY , i think i put the pressure on VodaFone in UK Forum HAHA http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Magic.../513125/page/2

Android 2.2.1 (Froyo) is now available to Vodafone HTC Magic customers

Android 2.2.1 will give customers a number of improvements including: latest Gmail and Android Market clients; ability to save applications directly onto an SD card; support for USB tethering so the phone can be used as a modem; improved support for Active Sync Exchange (email, contacts and calendar sync); enhancements to Bluetooth; and enhancements to the camera. The update also includes the latest Google security patches.

How will customers get the latest software?

Customers' devices will receive an automatic notification when the update is available for their handset. They can then choose to accept the update by following the on screen prompts or perform it later.
The roll out of the software is phased, so not all customers will receive this notification at once.
Because it is quite a large update, we’d recommend customers carry it out over WiFi, although it is possible to download it over 3G or GPRS.
The update is a two step download which will be triggered by automatic notification to the customer's handset. The first step will change the bootloader. The second step will install FroYo after the phone has rebooted.

Checking software versions

To check which version of software the HTC Magic has:
1. Press the menu key, then touch "Settings", scroll down to and touch "About phone"
2. The software version will be displayed here

Vodafone UK HTC MAGIC Android 2.2.1 UPDATED

I have had a successful Vodafone UK HTC MAGIC Android 2.2.1 UPDATE Using My Touch 3G Official AOSP 2.2 OTA Update and 2.2.1 OTA

METHOD :
Install Android SDK and ADB (Android Bebug Driver) Driver and enable usb debuging on your Magic (Menu Button> Settings> Applications> Development> USB Debugging[x] )
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
[ handy video that details most of the stages to give you some idea before hand (this is not a howto for this post but is to fimiliarise you with some of the same stages ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o2ujqazjcY ]

Root phone , so many ways just search here or google or follow that video above but remember our device is 32B
http://www.google.com/cse?q=htc+magi...&ie=ISO-8859-1

Install recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
I used flash_image on magic via terminal application installed on the phone method,Just google to find out how to add it.
Copy recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img to the root of your sdcard
start the terminal app on your phone
type su to get root
then type flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
or /system/bin/flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
depends where you put flash_image really

Made Nandroid backup via Recovery ( Power down phone, Home+Power button then Home and Power button to get menu)
Make sure you test your recovery is working, i made several just to be on safe side

Installed an engineering (s-OFF) SPL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019

I used Engineering SPL 1.33.2004
Checked via Fastboot that SPL was installed okay ( Power down phone, Power on + Back Button )

Check out this thread in case you have a perfected SPL (fastboot remote: not allow).I remember my first messing with my Magic a good while back and found i had this problem and had to make a gold card, but there are other methods
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218

Followed My Touch 3G DOWNGRADE TO DONUT OTA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807899

Then Official AOSP 2.2 OTA Update from begining of this post also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807899
and after that once i setup Wifi an OTA 2.2.1 Popup box came up telling me there was an update so i said yes

Looks weard not seeing Vodafone Logo on boot now, seeing My Touch 3G Logo instead and My Touch 3G in any settings

MABEY someone who has the time can write a proper HOWTO UPDATE UK VODAFONE HTC MAGIC via this info

Lastly root your New Vodafone (now My Touch 3G) UK HTC Magic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

Install recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492

Oke, call me thick if you want, but I still don't understand why this is any more special than the other phones that have flashed 2.2.1
The means of getting the update on none mytouch phones was already known. What have changed, or not changed for that matter?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G using XDA App

Good for you.
EVERYONE already knows that a 32b magic could be updated to 2.2 because it is already stated so on page 1 of the 'official 2.2' thread! The fact that this is a UK Vodafone doesn't matter for on bit as it is a 32b, and so could be updated by anyone which had looked through de thread weeks ago!!
Great that you brought UK Vodafone updates to everyones attention, but like I said before, it's NOTHING new!!

Yes, as you need recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img installed via an engeneers SPL so you can do a Nandroid backup incase you want to go back or mess things up and as it complain's about signature, so you need to have engineers SPL so you can downgrade to the My Touch 3G DONUT OTA also

Add me @msn.com if you want help,
Back to studies, msg at weekend for help

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 0)
Installation aborted

as i say im new to this.Am i making an obvious mistake here? I would appreciate it if you could give me an idiots guide
