How is cellular network compatibility? I just spent a few days without service because the US model 1 III doesn't support domestic roaming on smaller carriers. Despite all the claimed LTE and NR bands, it's no more compatible than a cheap Chinese market phone. I don't know why they even bothered.

I can't see any difference between my LG V30 and Xperia 1 IV.
And it's about to be expected since it's using Snapdragon radio modem.
I'm on Mobile Vikings, which is a small MVNO and a prepaid plan. They are using LTE/LTE+ towers from large Play and T-mobile operators. I live in Warsaw, so my coverage and speeds are perfect. I can give some more feedback when I'll travel a bit more with it to more rural areas.
Speeds look about alright, I only tested it a few times on LTE, but 120Mbps is ok in my book.
It also does ~500mbps down an ~270uplink (1000/300 fiber) with my Orange Funbox 3 router (AC1200).
I'll update when I switch to the newest Funbox 6 which is WiFi 6 device.
I'm also planning to get Orange 5G e-sim so speed should be better on cellular.
I've also heard that the only "true" 5G operator in Poland is Plus, so 5G speeds may be only possible inside their networks.
Need to verify it further.

TLDR: Plus uses 40Mhz bandwidth, while the rest is on 10-15MHz. No mmWave and other fancy stuff.
I deem ~100Mbit downlink in smartphone enough though.

Stop crying like babies. There'll be charger in the box (45w). And do not forget that it'll pack Sony's best 40 and 50mp cameras on the back with the latest 8 gen 1 + proc. and so on . And the quality worths a bit of extra for me. My xz premium and z3 still work without any errors, freezes or anything while my friends' other ios and android phones don't work right anymore, drain their batteries, random restarts and freezes etc etc..

This aged well re the charger and cable.....don't give me that iOS ****e because I have old iPhones that are still getting iOS updates 6 years on because the hardware and software can still handle it. The amount of Android fan boys who come away with that "I've got a friend who has an iPhone and the battery is knackered after 2 days/falling to bits/won't turn on" bullshit....jeez.....utter garbage.
Remind me how many Android OS updates Xperia I IV and I III owners like myself will get?

I just got my Xperia 1 IV, the number 1 reason I bought this phone is to use it an external monitor to my Alpha camera. But there is not "external monitor" app installed, and it's nowhere to be found. Can anyone upload the APK kindly? Thanks a lot. (before I return the phone ;-) )

It's hidden because it's a lie. Settings -> Device Connection -> Connection Preferences -> External Monitor.

Now you can launch the app and... Nothing. Sony says it works with Alpha cameras but only some models made after the 1 III even have USB-C video. As far as I can tell, the 1 III can't emulate a USB video device either. External Monitor seems to be an ordinary video capture client.

Got the phone 2 weeks ago.
Thoughts so far:

1. Upon launching the camera, the phone heats up as quickly as if the battery was short-circuited. It's unbearable. The camera is pretty much unusable. I'm on the latest HK firmware as of June 2022.

2. Battery life is outstanding. It easily beats my Galaxy S21 Ultra which gave me 5-6hrs SOT in heavy usage pattern. I can get 7-8hrs here in the same application.

Hi, Just got mine a week ago :
- 13 minutes of video in auto mode indoor T° 29°C/84°F ( 5' at 31°C in manual mode) , without moving the phone , the Yellow Triangle appears and no more photos or videos are possible.
i am on latest firmware available in France May 2022 ( Build 64.0.A.5.27)

i wrote to Sony support about that glitch and their reply is unbelievable
"The phone works as expected and a software update will not improve the situation. Sony is aware that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Processor (Processor) generates heat when running at high speeds. However, there is no need to worry: you can continue to use the device safely without risk of burns."
but their reply is pointless, if you can't use the video or photo because of the yellow triangle switching off these major functions for a , so advertised , "multimedia device , capable of filming in 4k 120 pictures/s , 120 Hz screen etc with professional abilities the VideoPro/MoviePro APPs"

- Another point is when listening mp3 from sdcard, streaming from Poweramp or spotify to my CarAudio in BT , there are micro-interruptions as if notifications were stopping a milli-second the playing even if the settings are 'not interrupt " audio when receiving short notifications like sms, or news notifications and for example also in "do not disturb" mode)( it's like microprocessor lags /freeze to my opinion)

i am very desapointed by this Xperia I.IV and more by Sony Support reply .

i had before a Samsung S20U with the same usages and Temperatures environnement without any similar dysfunctions
