To all:

For those installing themed Gmail (or any other themed app) The Gamil app is acting exactly as it should. Upon installing another themed Gmail, it will be usable and appear that all is well. Upon reboot it goes back to Dark Horse's or Stock Gmail app?

Well it's not the ROM's or the themes fault at all. If you get a themed app(or in this case) Silver's gmail inverted, you will notice that his name of his apk is "Test_blue_inverted_GM something something. Well when you install this is install as such and the adndroid system will link to that one without a reboot. Thi sis correct and completely normal. Where the problem you perceive as the ROM's or theme's problem is simple. Both the ROM and Theme use the correct naming stucture called Gmail.apk, Silvers does not. So upon reboot the icon links to Gmail as it should, which in effect to you it apears that the old one re-installed itself. It in fact did not.

Solution:
1. Rename Silver's Themed apk to Gmail.apk and it will overwrite the current one.
2. Uninstall gmail first then install Silver's.

Easy cheesy folks.

No disrespect Gunther, but this is a conflict on the latest build. Like I said last night, up until yesterday's build I was able to install, it would tell me it was replacing and even after a reboot it would be good to go. With and without DH. On yesterday's build its not doing this. This is the first time I've had this issue in all of the time I've been flashing this rom. Before the name change wasn't an issue, and you know how long i've been flashing DH.

I have been getting a few force closes after using the procedure listed. I ran fix permissions in cwr and I shall report back soon.

Hmm, as long as you fixed permissions and rebooted, you shouldnt be getting FCs from it. Permissions fix should clear that up.

I haven't had any force closes since running permissions. On another note I was wonder if you (McLabia) knew of another themed app that similar to the inverted gmail 2.3.5 for the standard email app? If so, could you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Jons already started on this one, and I like where hes gone with it so far. Its a long process to theme things with that many moving parts.

Getting force closes on someone else's gmail app is an issue usually with their app.
Long explanations as to.why this could be happening.

And I understand what your saying, however a theme can not, can not control an installation of someone else's app. Flashing or not for a long time. Jobs gmail app is just a themed copy of what comes in the ROM. It resides in the system/app folder as gmail.apk. if u install another and.its a different file name, basic computing 101 tells u, u will have two files. I can't tell u what happened before. But we as I said tested it every step of the way. Nothing the theme can do about it. Once we renamed.it to gmail.apk worked perfect.

lol! I've told you before, I hardly ever have even one drink anymore. I all but quit a few years ago. And I wasn't even a heavy drinker then.

Just catching up on the thread, I hope that all is well now. Since the theme was put together by myself let me tell you about this build in particular. I realize that a few have had issue with another gmail fc'ing after install or that my gmail was "over riding " the other gmail upon reboot. I am not here to dispute whether this gmail fced or was overridden ect ect. I am here to list the facts of this build and what better person to tell you the facts.


1) The gmail that is included in this build is the same gmail that has been included in prior builds.

2) After installing the silver inverted gmail on my phone after renaming it to gmail.apk and pushing it to system/app (over DH) it ran fine no f/c's at all.

3)One thing that must be realized is that anytime you dirty flash (I've done it too) there is bound to be issues. I realize that many of you have ran this silver gmail over DH for quite so time with no issues at all however the whole definition of a rom update is to put a rom on your phone that was different then the last one, and as such it may react differently.

4) Lets just say for the sake of argument that it was the theme that was causing gmail.apk to f/c. Does it mean that the theme is defective? I would say no way. The reason I say that is that with the apk's that are included with it you have a rock solid rom (I have experienced no f/c's of any kind since I installed it) and I have had it on my phone a day or so before I released it. There have been times in the past I have installed themes and then put either my custom facebook.apk or other apk on there that in prior editons has worked now all of a sudden it does not. Does it mean the theme was defective? again I say no as it ran as intended with the apk's that were included with the build.

Whoa whoa i think that this minor bug was a bit more overblown than it needed to be. Lol. Like I said minor bug. I've found defects(think back to the status bar disappearing) and this doesn't ruin the theme or break it. Just a minor and easily fixable hiccup. For all I know it was flashing dirty that did it. As for the fcs, that was user error on stomps end. It worked when i renamed and replaced it like Gunther recommended.
