Ukraine Generic UA 10.4.1.B.0.101 rolling out ...
I guess this FW doesn't have NFC icon
There's actually quite a few 6503 versions rolling now...

OH yeah... thus far, battery life seems alot better on this firmware rev. I did have an issue with RILJ wakelocks... which is probably due to having dirty flashed this over my 569 install... (putting it in airplane mode for a minute and taking it back out seems to have solved it for now... will have to see if that returns with another reboot.

Also, Bluetooth seems fairly stable - only had one music playback hiccup on the way to work - 30 minute drive connected to a Kenwood head unit streaming audio from mp3's stored my sdcard...

Noticed that the phone seems noticeably cooler than before... (basically whenever I've felt my phone's running with the least power draw, it's always "cold"... this is better than I remember experiencing with 569... Seems to have a lot less battery draw than either CM or Omni 4.4 at this point....

So..
No easy click root for 4.3 yet ...right?
I haven't been following rooting since I used OTA since beginning.. up until now.

What's the easiest way to root with locked bootloader?

Thanks

Not certain... I'm UB so I just flash what I want/need to make it work... Based on what I think I know, you'd have to basically downgrade & wipe, root, upgrade using NUT's method... but I don't think he has something setup for 101 as yet...

Basically with the locked boot loader, you don't end up with an integrated (built in) recovery in your boot image...

*sigh*... sadly, I could re-lock it now that I'm rooted & updated... but that doesn't help you...

is it worth updating from 4.2.2, is 4.3 any better?

from what I read, there is a big battery drain problem after updating to 4.3
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Rapid-Battery-Drain-after-4-3-update/m-p/492545#U492545
It's worth it, it's faster, looks and feels neater.
The battery drain problem though, I've heard a lot about it, but before I installed this patch here the battery drained as fast as it did with the update from 4.2 to 4.2.2, which consumed a lot of battery compared to 4.2.

Now with the patch though, it seems like the battery lasts much longer again, when I installed the patch earlier today, I was at about 73%, since the update I've played about with the phone and listened to music, while having bluetooth and wifi on. now 6 hours later I'm at 60%, and it's been showing up as 60% for a couple of minutes now.
Same kind of usage would have brought me down to 30 at least before the patch.

This is the first time in months that I'm going to bed without charging it.

So yea, it's totally worth it.

Hmm... some observances...

Bluetooth seems to be much better and the walkman app retains focus when you switch apps now (with 569 and 67 I had to bring the walkman app back into the foreground after switching to e-mail or sms before I could control it via bluetooth controls... now bluetooth controls still control the music app). Cutouts seem to have been greatly reduced (I can only remember hearing one stutter/pause in about an hour's worth of listening to mp3's via bluetooth).

Power consumption seems to be better - need to do more testing - honestly I screwed up today's test after discovering RILJ had gone nutso and had consumed ~ 15% of battery... (re-charged to 100% and at that point, then took pictures and connected my phone to the computer which altered my time on battery...) So, I need to re-check tomorrow.

At this point, I have ~ 6 hours on battery, I've listened to mp3's via headphones for over an hour and listened to mp3's in my car for about half an hour on the way home - the wakelock time for the walkman app and for the media server seem rather low for how much time I know I listened to music today... I only have ~ 30 minutes of screen time (low) and I'm at ~ 69%... I know that this seems to be better battery life than I've seen with 67...

Phone feels consistently cooler as well...

need to test further with a better "real" test...

From what I understand, they've already discontinued this line of phones due to lack of adoption... While one does expect their fairly expensive gear to be supported for 18 month support window... I tend to expect the worst.
The phone is almost exactly the same as the Z. Every time the Z gets an update the ZL will receive it as well. If you have a ZL don't be worried. I bought one because I find it to be better than the Z anyways.
