Can't install via TWRP

Hi Myself5,
first of all thank you for your work. I am a longtime and satisfied User of cr-6.1!

So now PAX is also available for the z3c. Unfortunately I cannot install it via TWRP. The error message indicates that the build is for the "z3c", but I have the "aries", it says. As far as I remember, there were a Time the z3c named aries. Is it possibly marked in the MAC or something like that? Is there a solution?

Kind regards
clooney

Thanks for your work, but I'm sorry to say that my experience with this rom for a day hasn't been good, because cr-8.0 has had a very unstable behavior in my z3c, so I've had to come back to cr-6.1, which works like a charm.

My installation steps:
- I wasn't able to install cr-8.0 with the twrp 3.2.3 of my device, so I flashed twrp-3.3.1-0.4-z3c.img from here in FOTAKernel.
- I wiped everything (cache, data, internal storage, system, sd) to get a completely clean installation.
- I installed CARBON-CR-8.0-PAX-WEEKLY-z3c-20200506-2205.zip.
- I installed GApps: open_gapps-arm-10.0-nano-20200507.
- I installed Magisk-v20.4.zip
Everything without error messages.

Then I rebooted, logged in my google account and and started to restore my apps, contacts, call & sms history,... and a bit later of loading the launcher (and while apps were restoring), error messages started to popup ("app X" keeps stopping), where "app X" are: first, play services and play store, but later any other app randomly (especially the first running). After several attempts, that app runs but some times fails after a while and stops again.

If you need from me some kind of more detail report or log file, just tell me. I could re-install cr-8.0 if it was necessary.

Try 3.3.1 from here, it support Android 10 with "system as root". And I'd recommend wipe all except internal storage and perform clean install.

I used that twrp first, but it didn't let me install magisk, I got a "Error 1" message, so I tried this other one with success.

Thank you for your hard work!

Does encryption work properly?

What works
Viper4android works
Sony Device Dummy works with official Sony apps
Spotify works
You may like xmlpak magisk module if you use sony device dummy. It allows you to do the same and even more, because it enables you to download almost every vendor locked app from play store. I was also using sony device dummy before, but once I found out xmlpak, I immediately switched to it.

Due to reports of complications with Google Apps we pulled the PAX builds for Z3 and Z3 Compact. I'm working on a fix and hope to release fixed builds ASAP.

If you had any weird issues, then that's why. Sorry for that.

When those builds get released however, they STILL require a clean install over CR-6.1. Dirty flashing does not work.

Thanks for all your effort! I was wondering where the builds were. Would you be so kind to alert us once they are available again?

    Hi Myself5,
after updating to the suggested twrp-3.3.1-0.4-z3c.img I made a clean install of the pulled first version CARBON-CR-8.0-PAX-WEEKLY-z3c-20200506-2205.zip. I observed the same issues as here described. Apps were difficult to install and apps closed immediately after starting them. So the system seemed to be quite instabil. Now I installed the CARBON-CR-8.0-PAX-WEEKLY-z3c-20200510-2130.zip release (did not a clean install) and all the apps, settings and so on are running without any problems (as I tested so far).

Great work and thanks a lot for your effort!

After a whole day testing the rom CARBON-CR-8.0-PAX-WEEKLY-z3c-20200510-2130.zip, I've had no stability issues :).
    Thanks for your work!

I've just come across a couple of issues related of the SD card:
    • Default Camera-App doesn't allow me to save photos to SD card.
    • Vanilla Music doesn't play music files (mp3 files in my test) from SD card.

Does the same thing happen to someone else?

Observe the same issue. Photos are not saved to SD-Card.
However, Vanilla Music plays music from SD-Card.

You can open the zip file (I use 7-zip), navigate to META-INF\com\google\android\ and open updater-script with a text editor.
In the fist line replace "z3c" with "aries" twice, save and zip.
With this modification the test for the correct device is passed.

No problems with Magisk v20.4 here, I'm running the latest build. Which TWRP version have you used? 3.3.1.0-4 here!

I took TWRT 3.3.1.0-4 too. I came from cr 6.1 with TWRP 3.2.3. From that configuration I couldn't flash 3.3.1.0-4. So I first had to flash original .291 firmware, root with .576 Kernel and so on. May be there was gone something wrong. I think I have to try it again.

What happened when you tried to install version 3.3.1 over 3.2.3? Which way you used? I use to fastboot mine to the FOTAKernel (case sensitive) partition.

    Thankyou for your response!
I tried both ways: fastboot to FOTAKernel and also fastboot to recovery. In both cases the response was "successful", but I can't boot in TWRP. Then I flashed 3.2.3 again, installed cr-8.0 (13-05-2020) - successfull, but when I tried to start the phone it only vibrates one time and nothing else (all variations with only power on, power on with volume-racker). Therefore I had to install the original firmware .291 and the rooting-process. After that I could flash TWRP 3.3.1 and install cr-8.0 with no problems. Only flash of Magisk failed (flash with TWRP and also with Magisk-Manager).

TWRP flashed to the FOTAKernel partition can only be accessed by hardware means. Starting with the phone powered off, hold both the power and the volume down buttons. When the phone vibrates (as if it was being turned on), release the power button; when the screen lights up, release the volume down button.

My feedback about CR8.0 (weekly build 20200513-0206) with gapps pico, magisk 20.4 and ~75 user apps.
      Using TWRP 3.3.1-z3c-20191212-sar from here
Xposed (RiRu 20.2 from magisk repo, EdXposed-YAHFA-v0.4.6.2.4529 from here) works without problems (1st screenshot).
I'm not using internal data encryption because of compatibility problems between ROMs/versions, tired to restore backups each time I flash new ROM.
About 700MB of RAM free just after boot, with stock launcher.
Battery drain fast, but my battery is very old, no complain.

      Pros:
      + reliably fast
+ everything works including GPS, BT, calls/data, hotspot and all my apps
+ no problems with audio routing and mic sensitivity
+ camera is ok but I use OpenCamera anyway

      Cons/bugs:
      - still no 5ghz wifi in Russia (I use my magisk-patch to fix this, may also help with other regions, try if you meet this bug)
      - ongoing call can be hanged accidentally by double-tap in any place of turned off display (e.g. by cheek) if tap-to-wake feature is active (here is my workaround using Automate tool, works like a charm). I'm not sure if this bug belongs only to my phone or to any z3c, but it was like forever on any AOSP-based ROM, starting with Android 7.
      - broken size for "Aeroplane mode" button/icon in power menu (see 2nd screenshot)
      - ringtone sound become a bit quieter after half a second from start of incoming call
      - overall loudspeakers volume is not loud enough

Features I'd like to have in this ROM:
      1) choose clock position in statusbar (only at left in CR8.0)
      2) brightness control by sliding in statusbar without opening it
      3) mess up digits on the PIN unlock screen [Carbone Fibers > Buttons > Scramble PIN]
      4) unlock instantly when entering last digit without confirmation
      5) long press power button to turn on/off torch while display turned off [Carbone Fibers > Buttons > Toggle torch]
      6) restrict/disable power menu while phone locked
      7) disable notification panel while phone locked
      8) set minimal time between notifications on per app basis
      9) wake by volume rocker buttons
      10) increasing ringing volume
      11) debugging over network (settings in devs options, absent in CR)
Most of this stuff available in LOS and AEX roms, but also all (except: 7,10,11, with bugs: 6) can be achieved in CR by using GravityBox xposed module.

Thank you @Myself5 for continue work with our lovely z3c.
