Just thought y'all might like to know-

Using MX Player along w/ custom codecs (to support DTS audio) the Note 3 is fully capable of playing these back with ease that is nothing short of astounding. I ripped an imax bluray to MKV, maintaining audio but compressing video a bit, and it plays completely without issue.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner but that's exactly the post I used. You need to unzip the archive to a location on the phone. Then point to it. I also enabled hw acceleration.

Streaming is great but something to be said for having a movie available without needing to have bandwidth for it or even a connection. With 96gb available on mine w/ 64 gig sd card, space not so much of a concern.

There are two ways for you to solve it
1.MX Player and the VLC Beta both work fine with .mkvs, you can download these player in your note 3
2. You can rip your MKV files to the note 3 supported format like .mp4

I use mx player and like it. If you are using subs I have to use software local decoder or subs get wacky.

Works like a charm. No more need to transfer to my computer to convert and replace again.

VLC is fine but for some reason it sucks battery like a depraved whore. MX is better but i used to like using the stock player on my Note 2 because it was battery friendly. Frustrating but at least i just use an alternative player.

As for Anime it has to be VLC or nothing, and even then there always some break up. For some reason the Japs like to encode there anime in 10-bit 720p MKV with dual audio (if available) and subs. I thought that the Note 3 would handle HD anime better but it's more or less the same problems. So it's down to waiting on further VLC development, i wish they get a move on as VLC hasn't really improved that much in 18 months and there still loads to improve on. it's only 80% there.
