When updating to 19.1, do I need to reset the system or cache partition before flashing the new package and gapps? It is not mentioned in the tutorial so I would expect not.
I guess the new package might just completely override the old system partition, but why then does flashing the gapps not completely override the new package?

No you just have to sideload the los zip and afterwards the gapps zip, that's it
Am I supposed to flash the same GApps package as I flashed on 18.1 (I think MindTheGApps) or can I flash whatever GApps package I like (e.g. NikGApps Core) on upgrading official 18.1 to official 19.1?
I think you can but I'm not 100% sure, I had Open GApps with LOS 18 and dirty flashed LOS 19.1 with MindTheGApps without a problem.
Lineageos 19.1 is out now for the OnePlus 5T (dumpling)! Let us know if anyone managed to install it successfully, I'll probably only try it tonight,

I'm using MindTheGapps which work perfectly, no experience with other gapps
Was anyone able to add a work profile successfully on the latest los 19 build? I am trying to add a work profile and seeing the error attached. However, there is no issue whatsoever with the internet connection. Any help is highly appreciated.

I had no problem installing Magisk via lineage recovery. Just used "adb sideload magisk.apk", how did you do it?

1Thank you for all your hard work T1mb3, I've just updated from LineageOS 18 to 19 following the official instructions.
Everything went well, my LineageOS 18 install was an upgrade from LineageOS 17, so its been good upgrading through multiple versions without having to wipe anything.
I had to uninstall / re install Google Pay after upgrading from 18 to 19 and setting Magisk up again. Pay got stuck saying the app was updating, even after clearing the data / cache. However all was fine after re-installing from the Play Store.

3pleased to confirm that using twrp3.6.2_9-0 seems to auto-update using the latest nightly (19-20220621-NIGHTLY-dumpling) via system updater, without needing to dirty flash in twrp
and thus, business as usual apart from trying to do backups in twrp due to encryption remaining borked
fingerprint remains functional for me
thanks to all concerned for making the process as easy as before3I found on xda this TWRP recovery that can decrypt LineageOS 19 if you have no lock screen set.

1) Reboot into TWRP recovery
2) Flash lineage-19.1-20220620-recovery-cheeseburger.img
3) Reboot into lineage recovery
4) Apply update
5) Apply from ADB
6) Copy paste lineage-19.1-20220620-nightly-cheeseburger-signed.zip and Magisk- v25.1.zip and twrp_op5_op5t_3.6.2_12.1-test-v5.img files in adb folder in C:\adb
7) Open CMD in administrator mode
8) cd C:\adb
9) adb devices
10) adb sideload lineage-19.1-20220620-nightly-cheeseburger-signed.zip
11) adb sideload Magisk-v25.1.zip (if error force install)
12) Reboot OnePlus 5
Install TWRP Recovery via FASTBOOT
13) Reboot in fastboot mode
14) Open CMD in administrator mode
15) cd C:\adb
16) fastboot devices
17) fastboot flash recovery twrp_op5_op5t_3.6.2_12.1-test-v5.img
18) Always from fastboot mode on the OnePlus 5 reboot in recovery mode

From 18, I upgraded TWRP to the latest compatible version using the TWRP app, then wiped system (kept data intact), and installed Lineage 19 + MindTheGapps. All worked perfectly, except that TWRP can't decrypt data any more, but that doesn't affect OTA updates, and it should come with a new version eventually.1 -
