So I'm on goohs note 4 lolipop rom for note 3 made overlays folder permissions to 0755 for folder and 0644 for the app files did this rebooted and no changes where made seems like a cool mod if I can make it work any help would be appreciated thanks

I'll elaborate how to apply themes step by step-
1. Create a folder named overlay in the following directory
System/vendor using ES Explorer.Now select the folder go to properties and set permissions as shown in the Post 1 in Al Iraqi's Post-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/themes-apps/systemui-overlays-5-0-t3025183. Now save the permissions.
2.Then download the desired Overlay/Layer from the post. After downloading, copy the apk to System/vendor(You can only copy one apk at a time i.e if i want to apply green mats , then ill only copy green mats to the overlay folder ). Now select the apk and go to properties. Set permissions as directed by Al Iraqi. Save it.. Now reboot and enjoy:laugh:.
3.For volume panel , download the desired Volume Layer. Unzip the zip file. You will get two apks. Copy both the apks to the very same overlays folder you made earlier. Set the permissions of both the apks same as you set for the Layer apk(e.g for the Green mats apk). Save it. Reboot Your Phone Enjoy.:victory:

I did not have time to have a look in the code so one question. Am i right that we can use only one overlay-apk for one system-apk or is it possible to use more overlay-apks? I.e. i use your aosp systemUI overlay. They also changed my signal icons but i prefere my owen. Ok i can change them in the apk and so i did. So, can i use one overlay-apk for statusbar-icons and one for the other stuff?

You can use more than one overlay for same app but you have to change overlay package name and priority
Im sorry about statusbar icons I'll remove them
