Hi there.

My First Gen Huawei Watch suddenly turned off its display today and even though it's off I can still feel the usual haptic feedback of the unlock code and the do not disturb modes when I click around on the dark display.

Everything seems to be running normally apart from the screen which only is displaying black and won't turn on.

I have tried long pressing for a forced restart and can feel the usual vibration when it restarts. No Huawei logo or Wear OS logo is visible either.

I have let the watch drain and when connected to charger the screen is still off.

Randomly a few hours later the screen came on again only to go off after a few minutes again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I had this same problem - it was due to water getting into the watch and causing corrosion between the touchscreen connector and the metal back of the watch. Ultimately in my case the battery was bulging and forced a gap between the frame and the back. If you're handy, watch some videos for opening the HW1 up. It's honestly very simple to do - but note that the screws on the back of the watch are Torx T2 NOT the T3 which some online guides say. Get some high % IPA and Q-tips and clean the connector a bit. I repositioned the insulator pads to cover the corrosion part and watch worked good as new.
