This process requires flashing back all stock firmware in order to upgrade/downgrade bootloaders.

Hi, and thanks for your efforts on this. I want to be sure I'm reading this right:
Are you saying it's possible to DOWNGRADE an SM-910V bootloader to an older version??? Seems like everything I've ever read about this phone says no. Want to be certain I have a path back, before I upgrade mine,
Thanks.

It is possible too downgrade bootloader from android 6 to android 5 and also android 4
The bit version must remain the same N910VVRU2BOG5 this the 2 needs too stay the same bit version. Once you update to bit 2 you must stay on bit 2 bootloaders but can move between android 6, 5 and 4 roms that contain bit 2 bootloaders

Thanks so much for the quick reply/clarification.
Do you have any idea whether it would be possible to flash the stock modem.bin from an official N910T Marshmallow ROM into an unlocked, rooted N910V also on Marshmallow? There was an OTA N910TUVU2ETI1 baseband/modem that seems to be required for Note 4's on T-Mobil due to recent TM network changes. I tried creating a zip w/ the modem.bin & flashing it from TWRP, no error, but no success. Even the patched odin's won't flash that modem.bin directly, unless I'm missing something(probably). Thinking I may also need a T-mobil contacts/dialer app, since there are options for VoLTE, etc, that don't exist in the VZW dialer settings. I have everything working, even 4G/LTE Data, except VoLTE, the radio drops back to gsm when I make a call. Just don't want to give up my Note 4, but the VZW signal in my home is now non-existent mostly.
Thanks.

Modems are specific to the phone just like a bootloader is so even if you force flash it like with adb or in twrp it would likely not read it and your baseband would show as unknown

I was hoping/thinking that the N910V and N910T were basically identical hw, and the carriers decided which CDMA/GSM/LTE bands to lock/unlock in firmware. Again, an assumption, but was hoping if I could get past the odin signing formalities, that if the hardware were identical, the firmware (modem/baseband) could possibly work(mostly). If you or anyone else knows from experience that it doesn't have a chance on an N910V, I won't waste any more effort.
But I will say this much, with this ROM:
trltetmo_N910TUVU2EQI2_Stock_Deodexed from thread:

on an N910V, with a T-Mobile SIM in NJ, USA,

Bootloader: N910VVRU2CQI2
PDA: N910TUVU2EQI2
CSC: N910TTMB2EQI2
Baseband: N910VVRU2CTI1
Kernel: 3.10.40-9385989

The cameras work.
WiFi/WiFi calling works.
Hotspot works.
4G/LTE works on Band 4, including data.
(would love to know how to enable more bands...)
VoLTE works, but after a reboot, or any calling mode change, I lose it and have to bounce the radio w/ LTE Discovery app to bring it back.

The issue is that I need this functionality, if possible, on my other Note4 w/ MODestROM 11, my highly tweaked daily driver for the past three or four years. Getting all of that over to and working on the test phone will not be trivial.

If I can't install the newer modem, I'm hoping maybe a phone app transplant might at least get the MODestROM 11 phone to the point where the TM-ROM'd one is now, which is probably useable. Everything is working on MODest w/ a T-Mobile SIM, EXCEPT VoLTE, and I have tried literally everything w/ no joy.
Thanks again for your expertise.

Hi Jrkruse,

SO firstly, thanks a lot man for taking the time to develop this for a phone that seems to have fallen into obscurity and for keeping the files updated (I seen you updated it as recently as 2021 which is incredible for how old the phone is)! I absolutely love these phones and I have 1 I use daily with the latest stock firmware (& my wife also) and then I have 2 backups (one with 5.1.1 the other latest firmware) and then I have a hard bricked one that just stopped turning on completely one day so I have kept it for hardware parts. They are all verizon SM-n910V phones. Anyhow, I was finally forced this last two weeks when verizon turned off their 3g towers (which mine still used for voice) to get into really trying to understand the hidden features of the phone to try and get my phone back up and running to send and receive voice calls that I realized I would like to try out the newest Lineage Rom running android 11 with Gapps which I quickly learned was going to require an unlocked boot loader which I understand some call Developer mode since that what it says when you start up to download with an unlocked bootloader. So for at least 5 or 6 days I did nothing but read every page of every bootloader unlock & or rooting guide on this forum when it came to the Verizon Variety of my phones. I am getting way to wordy here so to cut to make a long story a bit shorter, I decided to use my older 910v with the 5.1.1 version to unlock and I used Tripper511 version plus watching several videos on youtube to wrap my head around the process. Anyhow, I was successful and I was even able to install lineage but for the life of me I could not get Gapps to install using the link to the latest Gapps from ripee's lineage Guide. Every time I tried to flash it in the latest TRWP (*latest version for Samsung note 4 Snapdragon) it would give me the error of "Updater Process error". I have searched for this error and although I found it mentioned in other threads (for other phones) it did not seem to be something that applied to Gapps, so I was confused by it enough that I thought maybe it may have something to do with not having the latest bootloader and or modem installed on my phone (since mine was from the 5.1.1 firmware package). For this reason I decided to try your "Post #2" method of having the updated but rooted & Unlocked firmware package. Well, Unbelievably sadly (Sad because of all the hours I put into this now) right at nearly the last step #4 of booting into Flashfire and grabbing the firmware you want to install from the FlashFire_Zips (which I chose the latest firmware of coarse) folder when I went to place it on phone storage for some reason for the life of me I could not put the file on the phones internal storage in my windows file explorer because even though the phone would pop up as a device in file explorer as soon as I would go to drop a file or even open the phone in file explorer it would instantly say device is unresponsive or has been disconnected!! And then for some reason I could not open up the settings (it would instantly become unresponsive) on the phone to change to MTP / file transfer so no matter what I did I could not get this file on the phones internal storage., and I even tried rebooting a few times and nothing would change. So what I ended up doing is putting it on a memory card and then using flashfire to install the firmware from external storage and it seemed to take / do something in flashfire, so I went ahead and rebooted to download mode and it failed very quickly and now my phone will only turn on to the "Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please use Software Repair Assistant & Try again" Screen! Now I do not know how to proceed. Any help you may be able to provide on what would be the best step from here and also what your analysis of why I could not drag the file to my phone would also be very much appreciated.

Direct Answer: A Verizon Note 4 (I.e. SM-n910V)

So as I so long-windedly noted above I have all SM-910V (Verizon Note 4's) and no other phones, they are all I & my wife use. Now the one in question that I used your files on is one that I was wanting to use as a Lineage 18 Phone with Gapps. I got it rooted and unlocked a few days ago. Gapps from Ripee's lineage thread would not load in TWRP. So I guessed it could be because of my BL and Modem Firmware being from the old 5.1.1 Firmware. So I tried your files / instructions starting at post 2 (like you said to in the thread) in hopes I could get my BL & Modem Updated then flash back to Lineage and hopefully Gapps would then load. I got to the point in your instructions where noted I should let the phone boot into Flashfire and grab the firmware I want to install from the FlashFire_Zips (which I chose TL1MM) folder when I went to place it on phone storage for some reason for the life of me I could not put the file on the phones internal storage from my windows PC. So now I am stuck with the phone only booting to a screen that asks for Verizon Update Assistant and it will simply not do anything at all not with Odin not with ADB nothing. Anyhow so my 2 Primary questions are:

1: Is there anything I can do to remedy this soft brick?

2: Why can I not transfer the files in step #4 of your 2nd Post from my PC to the Phones internal Memory?

I know it is boring to read and or care about other peoples problems and I respect that and think it is amazing that you would care to even a little bit. However I did painstakingly read the forum rules & rule #3 directs me to use detail on what led to the issue, what I tried to do to solve it, and what did I try to resolve the issue. So for this reason (& I hate typing a lot more than most people hate reading) I did painstakingly explain in way more detail than I would have liked step by step what lead to each of these issues, and exactly what I tried to remedy them and what it was that I was actually trying to accomplish. Anyhow in case you or anyone else actually needs more detail it is all up there. Again thanks for taking up your weekend time to respond.

Did you remove the sdcard after you flashed the unlock during unlock it formats the sdcard and makes it a recovery partition if I remember right If you have taken sdcard out and it still does it then I dont know what too tell you but Just start over that screen about update assistant is download mode you can flash files in odin from that screen

Thanks for the response JK,

Yes I actually did remove the card first as I noticed that nearly every Unlock thread noted that the Card should be removed. As far as flashing goes, I am using the "Patched / ModeD" v3.14.1 Odin you have in the download package and it just keeps saying Failed each time I try a firmware file from that download package. And when I try to send commands to it using the using Abd such as adb devices it shows nothing connected?

Should I try with a different version of Odin perhaps?

Or maybe the complete Samsung package that contains the newest Adb?

Thanks

Yes I did do that, but it did not matter because it went straight to the Verizon repair screen and holding vol down and Power would not even shut it off, the battery had to be pulled to get it off, and then as soon as I would put the battery back in it would start up on its own and go back to that screen. I did however try multiple times to instantly push the vol down, power, home, combo right as I put in the battery and to no avail. I also tried vol up, home & power for laughs and giggles and again to no avail. So I did get it to work though and here is how: I actually used the verizon repair assistant and plugged my phone when the phone was on & at this screen, and as soon as it said next on the repair assistant and that it found a copy of the latest firmware and to start downloading, as soon as I hit accept, I then quickly disabled my internet ethernet adapter connection in my computer 'networs' and the verizon assistant then switched the phone to download mode and once here I simply closed the verizon update assistant through task manager (so that the program would not hang) and re-enabled my ethernet adapter, and then bang I was able to use Odin (any of them). Then I redid the entire process you laid out from post #1 and on to post #2 but then unfortunately I still could not transfer the unlock file (it could be my drivers or something who knows). So what I did this time when I could not move the files, is this: I used another identical note 4 to format the memory card (which makes it unreadable for my PC) but then plugged that phone with the formated card into my PC in MTP mode and pasted the flashfire zip onto that memory card through the phones USB connection. Then I simply turned off the phone and took the memory card out and put it into the other note 4 that I was using your protocol to root, and restarted that phone and once it booted back up I was able to then use flashfire to flash that file from the external storage and then bang I was able to complete your protocol! It was awesome and very well done!

So my take in conclusion is that you have set up by far the easiest and quickest system to root a Verizon Note 4, and having done your way as well as the 3 other methods posted in the Primary Note 4 Verizon thread, I would rate yours as taking at least 95% less time and effort. I say that even in spite of the small hiccup of not being able to copy anything onto the phone in step 4 of post #2 (which could have been caused by 100 things not related to your instructions or your files). It is so fast and easy that I would say it is the most underappreciated thing I have seen on the snapdragon note 4 tree! Thanks again!

If anyone reading this has an issue in step 4 post 2 simply;

Format a micro SD card using a working note 4, then plug that phone into a PC in MTP USB Mode and then copy the Flashfire file of your choice to the downloads folder in the note 4's external storage, and then take that micro SD card and put it into the note 4 that you are trying to unlock and root while the phone is off (if its not off then you just need to restart the phone) and then install the flashfire file from this external storage you will find in the downloads folder! Enjoy

So I have been using your "VZW_N910VVRU2CTI1_ROOTED_FORCE_WIPE.tar.md5" Rom Which I must say I absolutely love more than stock as it is so much lighter and more fluid / quick. However unfortunately the only payment app that I have to have which is Gpay will not work after I install it (I have tried many versions including very old ones). It happens right after I enter my phone number and it is about to send a text code, and then it stops and says "Google Pay Can't be used on this device. Your device doesnt pass Google Pay's Security Checks. This may be because your device is rooted, or running an uncertified or custom OS Build." Is there any way to overcome this? Or is there a way to use a different root service than the one you built into the ROM that would allow Gpay to work? Thanks JK

If its the one rooted with etfsu make sure hide root is enabled and hide root from gpay and use a safetynet fix module by kdragon. If rooted with magisk do the same but also hide magisk manager app as well

Thanks for the quick reply JK. Anyhow, so even though I see efsu installing in TWRP when I enter twrp after step 10, once I boot up I do not see any apps with that name on it (or any unusual app) except for the Samsung Phone Info app which does say "Root existence - YES" when I click on the android tab. And for example when I download my purchased copy of Root Explorer from the play store it automatically has root (without any prompt to give it root access). So I am a bit puzzled as exactly how to hide this from Gpay when I do not have an app to control that (at least that I can find). Am I missing something here? Let me upload a screen shot of all the apps you included in the rom (first one is "phone info App" and other two are of the 2 pages of app drawer) to hopefully ring a bell....

Ok, so I downloaded the EFTSU Manager and used the hide root button on the left hand columb and made sure Gpay was hidden. This let me actually install gpay and see past transactions as well as see my credit card in there. However when I went to add said card as a contactless payment it got all the way until it said "contacting bank" and then said "this phone cant be set up to tap to pay, your phone doesnt meet security standards to make contactless payments, it may be rooted or running uncertified software. For more Info Visit Google Pay Help yada yada yada. Anyhow, when I search for the "safetynet fix module by kdragon" you mention all I can find is a github repository that seems to only have modules for Magisk rather than ETFSU, unless I am missing something? Anyhow I wont proceed any further until I hear back from you because I can tell I am way less experienced than you and I do not want to lose any of the progress I have made by doing something stupid.

Edit, one more thing I forgot to mention is that each time I restart or turn off the phone the etfsu manager re-disables the hide feature and then I have to re-hide it, is this normal?

Edit, one more thing I forgot to mention is that each time I restart or turn off the phone the etfsu manager re-disables the hide feature and then I have to re-hide it, is this normal?
you cant hide google play services or phone wont boot so it unhides them if you hide them is that what you are talking about
magisk modules work on eftsu

This Process Will Root Phone Unlock Your VZW EMMC 15 Chipset Bootloader Install TWRP Recovery And Install PreRooted Firmware Of Your Choice!.

I posted this because the current unlock methods are not easy to do. This should make process easier
If you already have unlocked bootloader and want to change bootloader versions then goto post 2

    Downloads
    EMMC_15_VZW_NOTE4_BOOTLOADER_UNLOCK_2021.7z

    Instructions
1, You need working adb on your computer. The latest samsung drivers installed. A Sdcard inserted in the phone preferably a 32 gig or less. Must be at least 1 gig. Phone will be wiped! A data connection or wifi is also required.
    2. Download and extract the EMMC_15_VZW_NOTE4_BOOTLOADER_UNLOCK.7z
    3. Reboot phone to download mode (pwr+voldwn+home_button). In Odin_Files folder use odin and flash the COMBINATION_VZW_FA44_N910VVRU2APB1.tar.md5 in BL slot in odin
    4. Once phone is booted up and connected to computer run 1Install_KingRoot.cmd. This will install kingo root and kingroot app on phone.
    5. Once installed make sure phone has data via cell or wifi. Run kingo root to root phone. Phone may kernel panic and reboot just keep trying. Once root is successful move to step 6 if unsuccessful try kingroot if thats succesful click on root permissions in the kingo root app and click on system adb and change prompt to allow. This is not necessary if rooted with kingo app
    6. Make sure phone is connected to computer and run1Replace_With_SuperSu.cmd then once this process finishes run 2UnlockBootloader.cmd. This will change CID to Dev edition and then unlock that bootloader. If first time unlocking phone it will change your cid to dev edition then reboot during process. This is fine you will not loose root. Close cmd window wait for phone to reconnect then run again this time it will unlock the bootloaders when done phone will once again power off. Remove sdcard this is very important so I will say again remove SDCard from Phone your phone will not boot with sdcard in until it is reformated! Reboot to download mode you should notice it says DEV Mode.
    7. Reboot phone and now you are ready to choose your bootloader you want to be on for this guide we will assume you want to be on latest QL1 Marshmallow bootloader.
    8. Make sure phone is connected and run 3UnlockBootloader_MM_QL1.cmd or what ever one you choose. When done Phone will power off and now the bootloader is updated.
    9. Now choose the firmware that matches your unlocked bootloader from below
N910VVRU1ANJ5_DEV_ROOTED.tar.rar Kit Kat 4.4 Rooted Firmware
    N910VVRU2BOG5_DEV_ROOTED_SUPERSU.tar.rar Lollipop 5.0 Rooted Firmware
    N910VVRU2BPA1_DEV_ROOTED_MAGISK.tar.rar Lollipop 5.1 Rooted Firmware
    N910VVRU2CQL1_DEV_ROOTED_MAGISK.tar.rar Marshmallow 6.0 Rooted Firmware
VZW_N910VVRU2CTI1_ROOTED_FORCE_WIPE.tar.7z Marshmallow 6.0 EFTSU Rooted Latest Firmware!!
10 Reboot phone to download mode and flash above firmware that matches your bootloader version Im using N910VVRU2CQL1_DEV_ROOTED_MAGISK.tar.rar as example. Extract N910VVRU2CQL1_DEV_ROOTED_MAGISK.tar.rar and use provide odin from EMMC_15_VZW_NOTE4_BOOTLOADER_UNLOCK and choose N910VVRU2CQL1_DEV_ROOTED_MAGISK.tar.md5 or the one you choose and in odin BL slot uncheck auto reboot and flash. When flash is done make sure to reboot to TWRP recovery which will be installed and wipe data then reboot. You are done!
    11. Above firmware running magisk root may til you additional steps are needed and download magisk zip. You can skip this step if you want as it is rooted and magisk apk is installed but if you want I will provide magisk zip used in root if you want to reflash

    4. When rom is booted choose the zip that matches the firmware you want to install from the FlashFire_Zips folder and place on phone storage.
    5. Open flashfire grant root access choose add zip choose the zip you placed on phone click on reboot tab in flashfire and choose reboot to bootloader in will say dev mode this means your unlocked again
6, Now choose above firmware you downloaded extract the tar.md5 file from the rar file and flash in BL slot in odin Uncheck auto reboot when don flashing force reboot to TWRP recovery and wipe data again then reboot phone. You are now Upgraded or downgraded which ever you choose to do.
