Mine was also made in China and I am a little disappointed... Since this is a Japanese company (or so I thought) I was hoping it would be made in Japan?? Sorry but I just don't trust the Chinese to not put some nefarious code into our cell phones. So sad that nothing is made in America anymore! Kind of ironic actually because when I was a kid we would laugh when something was labeled "made in Japan".

Hope this helps, I dont know where you live but if you are in the US, order from the UK from Clove Tech, you pay the EX-VAT price which is huge savings. They sell it for 540 pounds which is 697 dollars, and their variant unlocked version has the fingerprint scanner, where as if you wait for the US to get it you will pay 800 dollars and thats not including tax and you DONT get a finger print scanner.
Im sorry about your Z3 bud, I bought one for the wife quite awhile back and hers is still plugging away. Best of luck.
Will sony warranty cover the phone purchased from UK and used in US?

Most are saying the battery life is good to solid on this device. However the only way to tell or have a comparison with other phones is to have screen on time results posted. That would be the true indicator. Plus easier to compare

How can screen on time be a valid comparison? What if I just don't have my screen turned on as long as the next guy? What if during the time I have my screen on I am reading email, or texting while the next guy is using GPS or playing games? Screen on time is useless because we all do things differently. The way I use my phone I can easily get two days on one charge. But for the next guy it may only be a day and a half and I may have more screen on time. The battery is the one thing for sure that is great on this phone.

How can screen on time be a valid comparison? Simple

Well first of all like you said everyones usage is different from one another. However you were quick to jump gun. When users post usage and screen on time you can see on what kind of usage they had to get that kind of screen on time. So by analyzing the apps used or gps etc you can see what the phone has to offer for battery life. So screen on time is not useless when you have usage pattern screen shot to go with it. So your argument is only valid to a certain point. Like for instance you might not use your phone much for 2 days and say this phone has amazing battery life. On the other hand someone else might use it moderate to heavy and say it has average battery life. That's why you need to see screen on time with usage statistics attached. Peace out

Another reason why screen on time is no good is because the brightness level of the screen will also alter the results. YMMV

It will affect screen on time but its still a part of the phone. So all conditions add to the end result. So the same applies if you were mostly on wifi or mobile data. How good your reception is. At the end of the day the more people post results the better. Very simple

Unfortunately I'm struggling to love this phone as much as you guys in the few hours I've been using it.

The good stuff?
*Design is beautiful... one of the best looking phones I've ever had, if not the best.
*Screen is really great for an LCD (I'm an OLED fanatic).
*One of the fastest Android phones available, and has a stock Android appeal.
*Stereo speakers, water resistance.
*Camera supports 4:3 and 16:9 without cropping (unlike every other phone) and 960 FPS slo-mo.
*Fast fingerprint scanner.
*Very strong cell radio & WiFi performance.

The bad stuff...
-Camera does not impress me so far, especially in low-light. OP said who takes pics in the dark? A lot of people, actually... indoor lighting is usually low-light. Dynamic range is poor compared to my Pixel XL.
-No RAW capture supported.
-Stereo speakers are not loud at all.
-HDR currently doesn't work on anything except content you download and put into internal storage... so it's useless for me. YouTube HDR needs to activate on mobiles to make it worth a damn IMO.
-No U.S. carrier WiFi calling or VoLTE support - kind of a big deal
-Fingerprint scanner/power button isn't the easiest to hit every single time if you are using the phone naked since it's even with the side bezel.
-Vibration motor is very weak.
-Flashlight/camera flash is very dim.
-(Personal complaint) animations are completely butchered to make the phone seem faster... I enjoy animations.
-Sunlight visibility is far from great (due to reflective front glass).

I really want to love this phone... but it definitely has some shortcomings.

Show us proof you own this phone. You bashed the XZ so it's hard to believe you own the XZP

I thought I would chime in here because maybe I can help you out.

So starting from the top of your complaints, the camera not being impressive enough for you, I really cant say anything because to me its great but maybe to either an enthusiast or someone with a keen eye and want more from a camera probably see eye to eye with you. It does what I need it to do for pictures.

When you talk about HDR, understand this isnt the phone's fault that the content is not there so that's not a slight towards the phone. It's like when 4k became available for the first time to TV's and someone going out and buying the first one and then complaining that there isnt any 4k content, instead of praising the TV that its an option thats there to use when you have the content. Also you can watch 4k content on the phone, open Google Chrome and change the settings. Also Amazon video shows 4k as well through the app.

Voice over LTE even though awesome, is very rare for people to actually be in a area that supports it not to mention its a battery killer, just because your Pixel has amazing battery and you dont notice it, VOLTE does eat your battery. Once again its a technology that has been out for awhile but not something that has been widespread or accepted by major carriers enough to push hard.

When the phone is facing upwards and sitting on the table, I use my right index finger so I dont have to pick it up, add more fingers.

Motor for vibration, no comment because I dont use it, I hate vibrators.

I would check your screen settings and change it to a more vibrant setting, I have no problems seeing in the sunlight with this phone.

The sound definitely could be a lot louder especially for front facing.

So really there only 3 things that could be improved, remember no phone ever hits all the marks.

The camera isn't bad during the daytime. It barely edges out my Pixel in detail, which is good, but disappointing at the same time considering it's 19 MP vs 12.3 MP. In low light though, there is no comparison. Even manually setting the ISO, it's hard to get a good photo. I really expect Sony to be the #1 smartphone camera... there's no excuse not to be, but I guess they either don't care or want you to buy a real camera, which is stupid.

I can't fault the HDR thing. I just mentioned it because I noticed it. You're right - the content is rare, and it's new. Frankly anytime I want to watch something, I'm using my 65" 4K OLED TV, so this doesn't matter to me.

I've gotten more used to the fingerprint scanner. I still occasionally have trouble hitting it (still not using a case), but I actually quite like it.

Even though the vibration is weak, it at least feels decent. Not a deal breaker, and it could almost certainly be strengthened via custom kernel whenever development kicks off.

Sunlight visibility isn't bad, but not class-leading either.

I guess what I'm looking for is something that makes this phone stand out amongst the others. There has to be something this phone is unbeatable at... I just can't exactly figure it out. The slo-mo is cool, be really limited (first gen product problem). 4K is ever so slightly sharper, but not enough that it matters at this screen size. Audio quality is solid. Speakers are good, not great. It performs extremely well... one of the top Android phones today.

Maybe my expectations are just off. Maybe this phone will only ever be really good at everything, but the best at nothing?... except for it's incredibly unique and stunning design.
