So stupid me, waited over a week to test my 3.5m jack adapter and just found out it's not working. Tried it in my car and with 3 different pairs of headphones, nothing. Phone is on the latest update, the audio jack app is updated, only thing I've done is unlocked my bootloader and installed Magisk. Anyone run into a similar issue?

Lol exactly same. Bl unlocked. Flashed latest Magisk beta and EX kernel.
The USnoic earphone comes with the phone works.
The adapter does not work with any earphones.
My own type c earphone does not work either.
Also tries to plug my U11 and 6P together. When 6P charges U11, 6P can r/w data from/to U11, but the other way, U11 ONLY charges 6P.

@liweichen6 pls elaborate- you said the earphone that comes w/the phone works & then said "Also tries to plug my U11 and 6P together. When 6P charges U11, 6P can r/w data from/to U11, but the other way, U11 ONLY charges 6P"- did you mean you tried to plug 6P & U11 together- w/the adapter? Also, what did you mean by "when 6P charges the U11- I never heard of one phone charging another & then you can read & write data to & from u11, put not the other way around- what does one phone charging the other have to do w/reading / writing data?

@liweichen6 please explain the following: I've never connected two phones together, or heard of the possibility- how is the phone that does the charging get assigned? & why should that affect data transfer, or is that the bug?

By adapter I mean the type c to 3.5mm adapter, which is necessary if I want to use a earphone with 3.5mm plug. But sadly when I plug the adapter and earphone, nothing happens. The control on my earphone works (play/pause, etc), but the sound comes from speakers.
When you plug two phones together (in my case with a type c to type c cable), you can have one phone charging the other phone. Let's say A charges B, and if you set the USB mode on B to "transfer files" instead of "charging", B works as an OTG device so A can read and write files to it. And it should work the other way around. I tested between M8 and 6P, and between 5X and 6P, they all worked fine.

@Ryan, what modifications have you made? root (which type of root) ? rom? xposed applets? what about twrp or any diff kernel or adapter driver update? your solution sounds like the script of an old tv show, tech support simply asks "did you turn it off & turn it back on?" ? Has anybody tried the Anker adapters?
3d party: Anker adapters for usb-c to regular usb? If anybody has pls advise, any diff.in earplug behavior?
You can see 'em on Amazon…

I hadn't used my USB-C to 3.5mm adapter yet, then I saw these threads with them not working. I plugged in mine and it would not work, also no firmware update prompt. I rebooted my phone and after the reboot, I received the update firmware prompt and now my 3.5mm headphones work fine.

Problem solved, but not sure about the exact cause/solution to the issue.
Since last night I: uninstalled Magisk, flashed SuperSU, flashed EX kernel 1.01.

Mines not working now either. Tried uninstalling magisk, nogo.

Tried a few different versions of magisk..

At a bit of a loss since it was just working a few days ago and I can't think of any changes I made.

Sorry didn't see this till now, you mentioned the wrong user (hope it wasn't someone random haha)

AFAIK Xposed doesn't work on Nougat. I'm BL unlocked, stock recovery and kernel, flashed magisk and that's about it. In magisk I have the greenify4magisk and crossbreeder modules installed.

Did you try to get the orig headphones to create a custom ear portrait w/the post BL unlock & rooting? The audio s/w on this phone is very picky…

just got phone, so I'm holding off unlocking BL & rooting fbr a bit (14day return window, if something else is bad, I don't want to have to play w/ re-locking BL if possible & unrooting… extra work yo prove poss. errors are not my fault…

@ huukhai, I'm a bit unclear on a written shortcut you used
what does " fw “ stand for?

TIA, oldwolf
Firmware. The App also updated the fw on the DAC build into the 3.5mm-Adapter. If such a notification doesn't pop up when connecting the adapter, it is best to uninstall the update of the need App. Disconnect and reconnect the adapter, update the App and it should pop up that an fw update is available and to be installed.

Sent from my htc_pmeuhl using XDA Labs

Thanks, 5m4r7ph0n36uru, that puts things in perspective, alas! my adapter doesn't have a DAC & plugging it in gave me msg in dialog box that cable isn't compatible… anyone besides HTC making these DAC included adapters?
