You misunderstood. Talking about unlimited photos and video storage on Google Drive that comes with pixel. So wifi has nothing to wtlith it.
if you are somewhere with no wifi and you want to play that 4k video that is in Google Drive you will hammer your mobile data making it unusable as your main choice of storage. if you have wifi you don't have to worry about that so you can use it as unlimited storage rather than storage you can only really rely on when you aren't on mobile data. more so if you are roaming as then it may as well not even be there for the costs that will be involved with using the service without wifi will be astronomical.

so really if you are relying on it you are relying on wifi or an insanely high contract with massive amounts of data.

Again the thread is not about data usage. It is about 32 gb or 128gb device

yes and the unlimited Google Drive storage was brought up as a solution to getting the smaller device, the point being it may be a solution but one that isn't practical outside of wifi, so really if you don't want wifi in the discussion you should also take google drive out of the discussion. unless of course you want to blindly claim something makes a smaller device worth having while ignoring the downside to having the smaller device and relying heavily on an online service.

I own a printing company and do a lot of email exchange on my phone as I am on the road. I download a lot of large files and frankly lose track of the clutter. I don't want to have to worry about it.

I uninstalled all non essential programs and moved just the essentials from my sdcard to my phone storage. I'm almost out of space. I ordered the XL 128.

I ordered the 32gb. I have not had any issues with my N-5 for three years. However I only keep 2 TWRP backups, Dont have many apps, and keep backups on my desktop and cloud.

Relying on an active wireless connection for documents and music files is annoying. I live in NYC, so riding the train is a must. I'd rather have all my music at my fingertips than not.

I also became way too impatient and just ordered an LG V20 because the 128GB option probably won't be in stock for a while. Here's to hoping the next Google phone will be made in sufficient quantities!

I've opted for the 32Gb Xl sim free as I am a Three UK customer on a AYCE data plan so uploading and downloading isn't an issue for me and is never throttled by my network regardless of how much I use.

Uploading and downloading from the cloud is super quick by the way even on 3G.

As a side note the phone is sublime, the screen and overall hardware package is fantastic and needs to be seen in person as I don't think the phone photographs we'll on the Internet.
For me the winning feature is the software, it is unbelievably quick and everything just works.

I currently have the Pixel XL 32 GB but also have the 128 GB Nexus 6p. I went with the 32 GB version because the 128 GB was sold out on Google Store. I started to regret it not long after I purchased it so I also preorderd the 128 GB model from Verizon. When I went back on my Nexus 6p and looked to see how much space I was using, I was only using 12 GB of the 128 GB. I cancelled my Verizon order and have been using the 32 GB. I stream all my movies and music and have about 100 apps total downloaded. I do not plan on using Daydream. I don't install any large games on my phone because I just don't find a lot of time to sit down and play a game on my phone (plus I have a very nice custom PC for gaming when I have the time). I have always used Google Photos for all my photos and pay monthly for the 1TB storage from Google Drive which syncs with the Photos and all my work documents and anything else I may need on the cloud from all my devices (computers and tablets). I have enabled the feature that cleans up photos and videos after 30 days that are taken from my Pixel. I have been trying to move most of my information to the cloud because it just seems like it is so much easier to access everything I need from any where on any device. I know there are people that are going to use most of the storage space on a 128 GB version and also want to be more safe at having all that storage space just in case but I really don't see myself using or needing more than what I have. This phone is the best phone I have ever used and I am not regretting my choice at all anymore.

Wait so we get free unlimited storage for photos and videos? Like the stuff we upload to the Google photos app? How does it work? Or does google know I have the phone and now it's unlimited instead of 15gb?

Because I don't see a change here.
Photos and videos taken on your pixel are backed up to Google Photos in original quality. Ordinarily this would count against your drive storage, unless you chose the "high quality" backup option which applies some compression magics and generally mucks about with original files. And the normal unlimited Photos backup option only allowed video up to full HD. With the Pixels, you can backup unlimited 4k video to Google Photos.
