Just purchased a Xoom (coming w/ HC 3.2) and am figuring what I'll try first.

Was curious as to why the EOS ROM is based on an ICS Kernel and not built off the JB Kernel.

Was it just the timing of when development started? Is there a plan to switch the code base at some point?
From my understanding and from what I have read yes, they are still on the ICS kernel because its what was available at the time they started working on JB. I am pretty sure I have seen kcrudup talk about working on a new Kernel, but that its not ready for prime time yet. Either way, I promise you will not be disappointed with Team EOS JB.

The short answer is "There's no such thing as a 'JB Kernel'". The kernel used and the revision of the (userspace) OS are really not connected much at all (the kernel only has to support the facilities the OS needs). For our devices, the kernel used (which for stock, is nearly the same as the HC kernel) is sufficient for JB and possibly beyond- but what I've done (and continue to do) is improve on the kernel we have, mostly by incorporating fixes that come from later kernels, and by tuning it specifically for our Xooms.

If I had the time I'd move forward to a 3.X based kernel (mostly to get the improved memory-management and I/O), but that'd take a lot of time I just don't have right now.

Thanks for the info!

My phone is a Razr Maxx and the devs often specify which kernel(s) you can be on to use their ROM so I thought there was a stronger connection.

Xoom should arrive tomorrow and I'll give EOS a whirl.

My zoom has always had EOS on it so I don't see why I would go stock. The EOS team has always surpassed my expectations for what to include in their roms.

Sent from my Team EOS JB Xoom

EOS rocks

---------- Post added at 08:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 PM ----------

I'm currently on Cyanogenmod 9 (stable). Can any of you give a comparison to that with EOS JB?
Thanks

Update: Went ahead a flashed. Not disappointed one bit!

CM9 is a very good ROM

but

EOS JB is much, much better:silly:

i'm on EOS 141 and it updated fine through Play Store.

it's the Google Search app update that also updates GN. latest version is 2.0.5.443668 if you have that, then you have the latest GN
Thanks Drewski. I DO have the latest one. I didn't know it was a part of search! I appreciate the NOOB help.

the other JB roms out there are pretty good as well, Codename Android is very nice with tons of options!

there are also a couple of rooted stock roms as well. more options for us to choose from. pick one and try it. if you dont like it, try another one!

Eh? This isn't the case for anyone else using our ROM- what does "GPS doesn't work" mean?!
You need not defend your ROM, it speaks for itself. You have a whole slew of devoted fans to back you. It's like comparing grapes and.cherries just a matter of preference. (the word *pple is forbidden here ;))
"GPS don't work" ?? Well it works fine here. Im guessing that he meant, GPS is not working for HIM. People keep in mind the many apps that some have running on their devices including non compatable and themed apps don't always play nice with each other or other components. The more background process's running the harder you system has to work. example would be batt drain, reboots, fc's .. this goes for stock or custom ROMs. .most of the time its operator error lol.

Posts like 'EOS baby m still waiting for the EOS 3.0.0 final release ' isn't helping much or speeding up the process, try to appriciate the hard work these guys do instead of posting this...or maybe thanking them trough the 'thanks' button ?;)
@ Hainswof
Same here, GSP won't work could have been GPS isn't working because of this or that, i've tried this and that.....
I've noticed your new to the forum so it's just an advice for the future, nothing personal ....:good:

We all try to help to make this rom back @ the top , if it isn't already ...

Team EOS works hard to put out awesome products FREE OF CHARGE, on their own time. These guys have jobs, families and personal live but still find time to accomodate us, answer support questions, and listen to requests. Those who complain - it's like complaining about a free sample. Their ROM is not bloated with too many extras, these guys were first to bring a working JB to the stingray Tablet. It is a very smooth running ROM.

Well, at the same time, I'd like to hear about issues people are having. No ROM is perfect (although I don't have any known bugs that aren't in AOSP anyway) and we can't fix what we don't know is busted.

... that being said, I'm pretty sure we'd've known by now if the GPS "wasn't working", so I need to know exactly what "doesn't work" means for those guys (yet neither one has offered up any additional info, so ...)

Be aware that the Media Scanner (android.process.media) runs right after a reboot, and if there's a version change can decide to re-index your entire Media. The combination of CPU usage plus all that EMMC (flash disk) activity is a recipe for huge lag.

I have a total of something like ~60GB of stuff it has to go thru, spread over some ~4K of files- sometimes that maternalfornicator is running for over an hour :(
