Rooting your mobile may void the warranty and you are doing it at your own risk. Sony would be in no way responsible for any damage :cowboy:

Go to settings > Security > Mark "Unknown sources"
Settings > Developer options > Mark USB debugging
Settings > Xperia > connectivity > USB connection mode > select MSC mode

==========================================================================================================================================

You should have
Flashtool
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/

------Downloads------
1 ) Arc and Arc S - Kernel
http://www.4shared.com/file/qNTvdPI6/Lt18i_41A0562_Kernel.html

Ray - Kernel
http://www.4shared.com/file/QSM6uqPU/ST18i_41A0562_kernel.html

All other users - Kernel or even try the kernels for Arc S and Ray
http://www.4shared.com/file/yte1KEDs/MT11i_41A0562_Kernel.html

2) Go to C:/ Drive > flashtool > firmwares > delete everything present and Put the kernel

3) Run Flashtool click on the flashing icon ( left side below "file" option)
Select flashmode > ok
Setup should be like this > select OK

ffc.png

Follow the steps connect your mobile and flash.
Flashtool may show error after flashing kernel, no worries. Even your build number, android version won't change. Everything would remain same. So please don't go to phone settings to check anything

4) After flashing restart your device, It may not start completely, may remain at Sony logo or blank/black.
Whatever the status is, just restart your device and proceed with the rooting--->
( Make sure you close flashtool before running the rooting toolkit )
Now connect your mobile to PC and Root Your Phone
If you face problem in downloading the toolkit then here it is
http://www.mediafire.com/?7dp5k73by10inbf

If I have upgraded to 4.1.B.0.587 already, can i use your method to root the system? Will I lose any data?

Actually, I have a non-rooted, locked bootloader 4.0.2.A.0.62 Xperia Arc. I want to upgrade to ICS and root the device, but I also want to keep all my game data. I cannot use Tiantium to backup the machine cause my device is not root.

I am thinking of upgrading the device through OTA or PC Companion to 4.1.B.0.587 and then use your method to root the device. Do you think it is possible? Do you think by upgrading and rooting in this way, I can keep my data?

In your case, you can just root it with Doomlord's rooting toolkit method, then using Titanium Backup.
After that just upgrade to 4.1.B.0.587 (if you want) without fear of losing your game data. ;)
Although i recommend you to backup your SD card content to your PC (in case TB Backup failed) :p

The only problem here is that 4.1.B.0.587 can't use root toolkit. They need to downgrade the kernel to an 4.0.2.A.0.62 one. After that, they can use rooting toolkit, then revert to 4.1.B.0.587 kernel.

Hey Guys i am a total noob so need some help. Currently my Xperia Arc is on Android 2.3.4 and i really want to root my phone and also flash ICS. I have downloaded this Rom- LT15i 4.1.B.0.431 Generic Worldwide. I have found out that i cannot root my phone currently because my build number is 4.0.2.A.0.62 which apparently is not possible to root. So if i want to root my phone can i directly flash this kernel on my current ROM and then root or do I need to upgrade my ROM to match it to this kernel version on this thread i.e. 4.1.B.0.587... Please help me out.. Been trying to root this since hours with no luck..

Isn't it better?

Although I'm a newbie, but isn't it better to flash some custom .587 kernel like LUPUS and then flash some superuser.zip?!!!
I always do that for both .431 and .587 firmwares (stock) and it works just fine.

    ==========================================================================================================================================

    You should have
    Flashtool
    http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/

    ------Downloads------
    1 ) Arc and Arc S - Kernel
    http://www.4shared.com/file/qNTvdPI6/Lt18i_41A0562_Kernel.html

    Ray - Kernel
    http://www.4shared.com/file/QSM6uqPU/ST18i_41A0562_kernel.html

All other users - Kernel or even try the kernels for Arc S and Ray
    http://www.4shared.com/file/yte1KEDs/MT11i_41A0562_Kernel.html

    2) Go to C:/ Drive > flashtool > firmwares > delete everything present and Put the kernel

    3) Run Flashtool click on the flashing icon ( left side below "file" option)
    Select flashmode > ok
Setup should be like this > select OK

    ffc.png

Follow the steps connect your mobile and flash.
Flashtool may show error after flashing kernel, no worries. Even your build number, android version won't change. Everything would remain same. So please don't go to phone settings to check anything

    4) After flashing restart your device, It may not start completely, may remain at Sony logo or blank/black.
Whatever the status is, just restart your device and proceed with the rooting--->
( Make sure you close flashtool before running the rooting toolkit )
Now connect your mobile to PC and Root Your Phone
If you face problem in downloading the toolkit then here it is
    http://www.mediafire.com/?7dp5k73by10inbf
