Anyone believe we get this? any talk anywhere of what this might beam for legacy (GED/Nexus) devices? Im pretty sure it was in some server logs.

I would assume it would be late Nov/possibly not even till January for that to happen.

Considering its an incremental update, we're only just approaching 2 years of age and I doubt there will be any major changes that would preclude the Xoom from handling it, yeah I think we'll get an official update.

I'm excited to see this Nexus 10 though. It will be the proper successor to the Xoom; the successor we deserve.

More than likely will receive, though as noticed in JB and even some parts of ICS, we didn't get all of the features bestowed upon the products bearing the Nexus name. There is ( in my opinion) a defining line between "Nexus" and "Google Experience Device".

Xoom will likely handle all 4.x iterations of Android, but would not expect to reach 5. All depends on hardware requirements and coding to accommodate older and newer.

Face unlock
JB stock wallpapers
New X (Nexus) boot animation
Sound Search widget (Google ears)
Single finger expandable notifications with 4.1.2

These are the top omissions that come to mind on the Xoom, there may be others.

didn't we get sound search widget? was it removed in 4.1.1? I thought I had it at one point (maybe I sideloaded, IDK)

also didn't realize we missed so many features (not gonna include wallpapers/screen boot though)

forgive my lack of knowledge, but do we need an updated kernel for these updates?

The Jellybean wallpapers change with the dpi. At its stock you get the old ics wallpapers, but if you change it to say the dpi to that of the nexus 7, you then have access to the new wallpapers.

None of those things were removed/omitted because the Xoom can't handle it though. I think some were just overlooked and some are just not practical (face unlock - we used to have it and it was stupid on a 10" device).

I have sound search widget on my Xoom (albeit not stock - is this not included in stock?). JB wallpapers and boot animation, well those are easily added and the Nexus animation was probably not added because the Xoom is not a Nexus by name. The only one that is significant (i.e. not easily added by the user) is the single finger expandable notifications and I would definitely like to see that but oh well.

Google had submitted the JRO03H 4.1.1 ROM to Verizon for testing (it was leaked here back in early August), but now that 4.1.2 has come out, I'm sure Verizon is testing that ROM now. On Motorola's official update page, it lists the VZW Xoom as getting Jelly Bean Q4 of this year, so it should be any time now...unless they're just going to wait for 4.2, then submit THAT for testing and have it be our official JB update...which means longer waiting. Ugh.

Owning a Verizon Xoom and Galaxy Nexus is very frustrating from an update standpoint. Updates direct from Google, but only after Verizon tests the ROMs and approves it for rollout. If only Verizon's network wasn't so goddamn awesome and the LTE so freakin' fast.

Awesome reliability, but my Nexus switches back and forth between 3G and LTE so often, its not worth keeping the LTE on. As soon as I get two LTE bars, it tries to switch to 3G. Freaking stupid Nexus radios

Yeah, even on Nexus devices, the radio firmware is the one thing that the OEM still handles. Samsung has had one hell of a time trying to get those Galaxy Nexus radios working right. :(

I've never seen face unlock on the Xoom. Was this in Honeycomb? When I got my Xoom earlier this year I let it update successively to 4.0.4, and never saw face unlock. Why was it stupid on a 10 inch device - it still does its function, correct?

No, no stock ROM for the Xoom has ever had face unlock. Some of the custom ROM developers included it and it works OK, but definitely not as good as it does on the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7.

Ah thats correct, face unlock never came to stock. As someone else said, custom roms had it but it was removed. I remember using it on my Xoom and it just wasn't practical with a 10" device.

We can as xoom owners look at ourselves and think yeah they will give us 4.2 but I think the xooms death for updates is looming. The nexus.10 is rumored and.that will almost certainly.replace the xoom if real for updates and as a product. We have had ics and jb now and if you look at other devices we have got our fair share of updates. I dont think.we will get 4.2 officially.
