i did this but i feel as though it was patched cause i am on 4.4.3
Yep, we had suspected that 4.4.3 patched the exploits. We pretty much KNOW that 4.4.4 is completely immune to them. It was worth a shot though... :/

Thanks for the confirmation. Just for reference, which variant do you have?

You -could- attempt to downgrade, but realize that it is NOT ADVISED, and you CAN/WILL Likely brick your device, either now or in the future.

If I can't talk you out of it, whatever you do, DO NOT flash gpt.bin or motoboot.img from the 4.4.2 SBF.

If you downgrade anyways (ignoring our advice) and it works, realize that if you accept an OTA in the future, you will likely brick at that point.

If you are successful, you probably will be able to root using the new exploit, but DO NOT recommend other users to do it! (You don't want to be responsible for others' bricking their devices, right?)

[End Rant]

Good Luck.

Even so, DON'T flash gpt.bin from the 4.4.2 SBF

DON'T use RSD-LITE (it WILL attempt to flash gpt.bin)

And don't say I didn't warn you.

Dude!!!! I wish I noticed this earlier, but if you have an XT1053, (and not XT1058), you can UNLOCK the BOOTLOADER, for FREE on Motorola's Website!!!

Unlocking the BL is far superior to -any- of these 'exploits'. It will allow you to have PERMANENT root, even on the latest (and future) updates.

https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a

Gosh, I hope you didn't actually try to downgrade.....if you did try, you should download the ENTIRE 4.4.3 SBF, flash back to 100% stock 4.4.3, and unlock your BL. Then flash TWRP custom recovery, and it will root your device for you. Its that easy.

Write protect will be disabled too! So you can write to /system, and root will be persistent. (You DON'T get that using any of the exploits)

Good Luck!!! :good:

bootloader (motoboot.img) might not have changed, but partition table (GPT.BIN) did. so the brick risk is there.

As @samwathegreat mentioned, since you have the XT1053, you can get your bootloader unlock code directly from Moto's web site and easily root after unlocking your bootloader, no matter what Moto ROM should be on your phone. (even 4.4.3 and 4.4.4, and future).

The only thing... If you have a real Dev Edition (says Developer Edition on the back, has a black face, woven white back) XT1053, unlocking the bootloader does not void your warranty. If you have any other XT1053 just requesting the code to unlock your bootloader DOES void the warranty.

Hmmm... I laughed a bit after seeing those three letters at the end
Yeah, I was confused as well. "dev" could mean "developer", OR "device"?

Also confusing is that the XT1053 is NOT an AT&T device at all! (Although it CAN be used on AT&T - it's not an AT&T-branded device....which would be the XT1058).

?!?

It is SIM-Unlocked already, yes. This means you can use it on T-Mobile, AT&T, or any other GSM carrier.

It is NOT bootloader unlocked until you follow the steps in the link @KJ Posted. It IS Bootloader-unlockABLE, but you must do the steps (request code & use fastboot to unlock) in order to get it "Boot-Loader unlockED".

See: "What Devices Can Unlock Their Bootloader" in the thread @KJ linked you to.

Good Luck
