Really. So you are saying that cm-11-20131228-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip or later should at least fix the camera? I just checked the CyanogenMod Spyder downloads and such a download is not available as of yet. 1227 is available now. Any news if the WiFi AP issue has been addressed or is it still a matter of patching? I depend on that to run my tablet and not having it is a no go. The launcher apparently sucks, the Trebuchet launcher 1.0 was nice in 10.2, highly configurable, but it looks like now we will have to use Nova or Apex launchers.

I did a dirty flash as a Settings menu update just to see what it looks like and it was bad. WiFi AP seriously dysfunctional, appears to be some sort of DHCP problem and it starts out with very low broadcast power output but ramps up high in about 1 minute, still dysfunctional. I deleted the slot and went back to 10.2. There is a new nightly every day and they seem to address "some" issues. At some point, I think the release will be ready for prime time and 24/7 use, but what I see so far means I will be updating like every day, fresh from scratch, and it takes way too long to setup my phone the way I like it to keep up with these nightly releases. I want a good one I can use every day before I am willing to do this again.

If you got inside info dope on this release, do tell. Camera only fixed? WiFi PA? Launcher? Stability? Battery life? Performance? Hey, I will take whatever you have and be thankful for it. But I am waiting for something "good" before I go through all this crap again. Thanks.
I was only told about the camera update fix being implemented. I do not know status of other bugs though I will say I haven't had any stability or battery life problems.

The camera fix is this one:

http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/56348/

Also change log is here and for those of you that use it BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) is being enabled in tomorrow's nightly as well as you can see:

http://www.cmxlog.com/11/spyder/

Also you can just flash new nightly over top of the old without losing settings, data, or any of your setup. Only time a fresh install is necessary is when you encounter uncommon issues or new ones that only you are experiencing. At that point we recommend trying a fresh flash before a bug report is made.

Cheers and happy flashing ;)

You got the same phone as me. Aw man, I am drooling over this update. I want this nightly NOW. It already IS the 28th and other 28 nightlies are out but not spyder. The install from scratch every time is unrealistic, updating to a newer nightly would be acceptable. I need a few hours do do this and setup things to be usable. I can do this now but, alas, the nightly is not up for download yet. Tomorrow, I dunno. Might not have the time to do all this. This is the 28th, there are less than 3 hours left in the day, what is the hold up on spyder? Release the darned thing!

Well, looks like I have no choice to wait for the 28 release, then do a total scrub or slot delete/recreate to go fresh is SS. THEN days or weeks to get it setup oh so the way I want it, and then, hopefully, updates will not totally wax everything and we can go back to a normal lifestyle. I am temped to move forward, use the camera.zip patch and jbx kernel, and then update through menu as they become available OTA,

Hey! Will OTA updates wipe the jbx kernel? That would totally suck and I need to find that out like, right now. Any information on that would be appreciated. Thanks and thanks given.

The spyder build for the 28th looks to have failed - I would look for the 29th...

Real flaky on mine. Works for a little bit after a reboot/airplane toggle. Then crashes.

My DROID RAZR MAXX sent this on its own.
Did you flash the CM11_WifiAP.zip file? That zip is supposed to fix this issue. I know the WiFi AP does not work at all, at least not on the 1226 release. Did not hear of the patch until later.

Agreed. With 2 hours left in the day, it is pretty clear there will be no 28 nightly. Might as well forget about the phone for a few days and check back in. This is too stressful. I have spent too many nights either installing a ROM and getting it right or botching it because it was a bad build and then the rest of the night, trying to reclaim my phone for daily use. It is simply not worth this kind of stress.

'night all! :p

Really! It happens to the best of us. What did you do, Caleb? You were flashing on a low battery and just "for real" bricked it? Or just experimenting, messing around, having fun, that sort of stuff and got painted into a corner? Obviously this is not your one and only primary phone like mine is. I want to experiment like you but this really is "my phone", the monthly Verizon bill is not cheap, $150, and I cannot take extreme chances with it. Yes, I have the insurance w/$100 deductible and have used it before, but an extra hundred bucks I do not have. Probably will use it soon though.

I have a single crack in the front screen (digitizer) and ordered a $15 replacement. There are some good "How To" videos on youtube to replace this. I did it twice already with my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and it was not that difficult, even used a 1,600 watt hair dryer in lieu of a heat gun w/success. But the phone is a totally different animal. Don't even try it. There are hidden screws, super tiny torx screws and the tools you get do not come with this size torx. Internal stickers get torn that will destroy the appearance of the camera lens face, and disconnecting the battery in this one is near impossible. I am a 30 year electronic tech and I gave up, the phone is not "exactly" as it is in the video.

Maybe this is a little off topic but we are all sharing experiences here and I am interested in how Caleb really bricked his phone, what does it take to allow that to happen? Not having OS installed properly and letting battery die? It won't even charge after that? This is all good to know stuff and we are sharing it. I am giving this a bit of time to work up the courage to do this on my only phone, plus, every day there is a new, improved CM11 that is paying attention to this thread and addressing the issues. Already there are stable reports so within a week it might be a fairly simple flash or two, but for the jbx kernel, which we all want.

Since these Droid phones have a built in boot loader, I am surprised to hear that it can really be totally bricked w/out permanently damaging it. I am just wondering what it would take to really brick one of these phones so that I never do it myself. Thanks all.
Ok so what i did was wrong in the first place. This is my only working verizon phone with a 4g sim card i wish i had another one just for this reason. Eventually i may get a htc resound for that reason and they are cheap. I just ordered the cord today. What happened is i was updating with cyan delta and for the first time it worked but i made the mistake of putting in the jbx kernel in that app to also flash and it flashed the rom update than the screen went black and i had to do a three finger shut down. I turned it back on and the phone only showed the logo and nothing after that nothing. So i asked a few of my dev friends Bionx and Mr. Glass. Bionx said it was a partition mess up. So I had to do the rsd back to stock and i mad the mistake of not checking my battery power wall i could still charge it. It did not work right the first time because i was using a mac running a virtual windows. So i plugged in the phone to a Real Windows pc and tried again this time it worked but something else happened and when the phone booted up it only showed the droid logo and after 40 mins still should this. This time i still did not look at the power. So It is all my fault and no one else's. But who is a developer or a tech with out mess-ups lol. I will not have the cord and will never have this issue again.

I think you hold down power button and Vol Down to get into APfastboot and you can use the DroidRazr Utility to go back to the OTA JellyBean release. You don't wanna restore ICS you'll be bricked for sure. Or you can try RSDlite and I think it uses this file *cdma_spyder_9.8.2O-72_VZW-16 But maybe someone else can better advise. Those RSD files are from May 2013
Also I did this and the battery is low and i had to order the cord no go any more.

This randomly started happening to me today. I assumed it was because I was bouncing around different towers all day. But a reboot and cache clears fixed it for me. It did stop me from getting calls and texts for a while.

Cyanogen get it together on spyder someday soon, please?

Yes. When it's connected it works great. But it won't connect most times.

...sigh. I had high hopes for this. With the sheer number of nightly releases, you can see this thing is as stable as a two leg card table on top of a pyramid. 10.2 works great, camera, phone, data, WiFi AP, all of it. Why would I want to switch? Yeah I want it, Caleb apparently has it setup well enough to suit his needs, tweaked the hell out of it with jbx kernel and that really is interesting, have to install a new launcher, this CM11 build is about as polished as fresh dog feces. I want it but want it to be a one night deal. Not flashing every other day, never really getting it setup the way I want because something is broken and there is a new nightly that *might* fix it but you have to go clean. This is ridiculous.

I am going to back off, watch and participate in the forum, and wait until a number of people swear it really works now and nothing is broken. I also have to accept that the phone is two years old, not at the top of the priority list, and there may never really be a good update to a much better system unless we piece it together ourselves and spend a week doing it. Hardly worth the bother. My hopes have been on a roller coaster for about a week over this and I am tired. Tired of this, just plain tired. Maybe when I can afford it I will get a new phone, something good, something hot, Samsung Galaxy perhaps? I bet good ROMs for that will be falling off the conveyer belt. But waiting forever on an update to this apparently "old dog" is wearing me thin.

I don't understand how in 10.2 the WiFi AP works perfectly but in 11, what happened, the developers somehow got drunk and lost the secret recipe on how to make a WiFi AP work? Camera, oh gosh, we forgot all about that and don't remember how to make it work. What is the deal? Ugh, I could go on and on but you see I am getting pretty disgusted with this.

Time to back off. I can see that CM11 is going to take at least 2 weeks before anything resembling something anywhere near stable is released, unless endless tinkering every day is your idea of fun. Not mine, for sure.

Note To CyanogenMod ROM Developers:
I really do appreciate your efforts. I love the fact that now I can have a CM account and can get OTA updates on a custom, rooted ROM now. I am just frustrated, that's all. Please do not take this personally and cheers to all of the fine work that you have already done and released to the public. Your ROMS are SO good that I don't even want to try any other ROM, I want my CM ROM and I want it soon. Thank you for letting me vent my frustration.

Thanks for your help everybody. Happy New Year!

I personally like this rom i use the wifi stuff and it always worked. I hope they get it fixed better. I maybe getting a htc rezound to replace this maybe. It seams to have better support. Any way I hope we all get to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I know you do, Caleb. And that is what gave me the inspiration to go forward with this. But every day there is a new nightly that supposedly fixes something. Based on what you have told me, I would just go ahead and get it done. But you do not have the exact same phone I do. I have the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx XT912. I don't know if that makes the difference or not. So many people are telling me that something works but only once in a while, have to reboot, and things like that. Perhaps they are not as experienced as you are. Perhaps the model they have is different from yours. I will probably just give in and try it again anyway, being extra careful to make sure full battery, ultra clean rom slot by deleting and recreating, newest nightly, flash ap patch zip, flash camera patch zip, reboot and see what I have to work with. Will reboot between flashes except rom and gapps. If it all pans out, camera works, wifi ap works, then install the Apex launcher and pay for the pro version, and be happy.

Yep, that is probably what I will end up doing. But it is 11:00 at night, I got a computer repair job tomorrow and need the money, so I cannot stay up until 5 AM doing this tonight. Besides, if there is a new nightly with a camera patch, I would like to give it a try. Supposed to be released tonight but not here. I won't wait for it, either it comes or it doesn't. Your phone came out "Da Bomb" with kernel and battery life, I want something like that. I am running out of room on my SD cards so I am backing up my TWRP backups on my PC, trying to remember where they came from. Usually in extSDcard under /TWRP/BACKUPS/0000000000000000/. Why all the zeros? I dunno. Since upping to SS 3.6.5, that is where they go now and older ones do not show up. If I can make sure to have good backups of working systems, I am not really afraid to try something new, other than to waste 6 or more hours on it, only to have to revert back to what I had.

If the new release does not come out soon, based upon your experience, I will probably do it anyway. Just be extra careful, that's all. This takes experience, patience, understanding of electronics computers android os, and not letting little setbacks destroy your enthusiasm, etc.I know I have most of that, it could be that many posters here are lacking in some of these basic essentials, I am starting to look at the board member's experience & Thanks level too before I make a judgement.

Thanks for the encouragement, bra! :good:

Let me tell you something about the difference between the normal razr xt912 and the maxx x912. The only difference is the battery! You have a lot better battery life than me. lol. The main issues are coming from the people in other countries with the x910 but than they had everything working great every time on cm10.2. We had a big mix up some phones worked and others did not. Now with cm11 it seams the tides have changed. Most people with the xt912 on cm11 have not that many issues besides the normal ones and a few know bugs. I am glad you understand. Have a great night, flash tomorrow night......... Believe me get the rest.

Great heads up and good advice. I did not know the difference. I was chomping at the bit around 8:30 tonight, just waiting for that 1228 file to show up, never did. Got too late for doing stuff like that. Once I start, I am in it for the long run and won't stop until all the flashing, testing, and patching and new launcher is installed. Then I can switch back to stock for daily use and configure when I have time. I do believe that will work. I am now gaming to relieve stress. I did get one break, a lump sum of backpay with my disability and used it to build a super rig. I really needed it because my 4 core AMD broke twice already, bad motherboard and there were NO replacements available for the hardware I had, anywhere, including the internet. Oh wow, and I did not have the money for a new rig. Being an electronic tech for almost 30 years allowed me to spot the bad caps on the motherboard and replace them, twice already to get rid of the BSODs. I did not want to press my luck so I built this super rig with SSD and 16Gb DDR3 w/midrange graphics card, GTX670 and even that part cost $400. So I can relax and enjoy gaming. The SSD is simply amazing. Rebooting my old rig really took almost 10 full minutes from click reboot to being able to use it again. With 512Gb SSD, now full reboot takes 20 seconds, wow!

Yeah I will really do it, just not tonight. Thanks buddy! :good:

I was getting the same on 12/26 I think. Flashed 12/27 and it went away.
I always wipe system, cache, and dalvik.
Install the ROM and Gapps.
Wipe cache and Dalvik again.
Reboot.
It worked for me.
I still get FC if I try to go into carrier so settings but I no longer get those toast messages and MMS works again.

:good:
Just so u know the build come from Jenkins.cyanogenmod.com look at that website.

So I saw a few post and questions about CM11 and also about bug fixes; I thought I'd consolidate everything into one post, maybe @ktimque can add this to the OP.

Setting up CM11 on the RAZR
Do a fresh install if coming from any other ROM including CM 10/10.1/10.2; only dirty flash over previous CM11 install (you may still encounter errors though).
SafeStrap 3.65 Required for CM11 install, previous SS and BMM do not work.

Note: For BMM there is a supposed workaround - You need to download this file as an archive. Open it and then and replace CM 11's Meta-Inf folder with the one from the archive you downloaded. And flash modified CM 11 zip without problem. That's all. Mirror

Download the nightly you want: Link

Get the Gapps of your choice:
  • Dhacker: Link || Mirror (Best for CM11 IMO)
  • PA-gapps: Link (MINI MODULAR is best IMO for PA-gapps)

Optional:
JBX Kernel (has the Moto X Camera + 720p fix): Link
Must be flashed after each OTA update to get back camera and kernel

Bugs w/Fixes:

  • Camera Doesn't Work on Nightlies 12/18-12/27
    • JBX Kernel (has the Moto X Camera + 720p fix) || Must be flashed after each OTA update to get back camera and kernel
      • Link (also allows to store camera pics to SD)
    • To fix the camera w/o JBX:
  • WiFi Occasionally Not Connecting:
    • Toggle Airplane Mode on & off
  • GPS not Locking
    • Wipe Dalvik+Cache and reboot.
    • Open GPS Status and download aGPS data and see lock
  • Occasional Complete loss of service [CDMA/Spyder]
    • Jump over to stock ROM (Stock Slot on SS)
    • Wipe Dalvik+cache
    • Boot to Stock and acquire signal
    • Boot back to CM11
    • If doesn't fix, switch to stock slot and revert to stock and re-root with DROID RAZR Utility XT912 and reinstall SS and boot back to CM11 (it'll still be there).

Bugs/Not Working:
  • App2SD
