Which JBX Kernel should I be flashing with the 12.29.2013 nightly? The description for the one dated 11-28-2013 talks about the 720 cam mod specifically but there's a couple of more recent ones including a 12-09-2013. Which one? Thanks!

Ohmster,
I seldom use Wi-Fi but in short trials it does work.
Looks like Wi-Fi tether is not fixed yet but I haven't tried the patch (I think that is the patch listed in the post you mentioned)
Except for saving pics on SD the Cam is now fully functional.
The included messaging app does everything I want including selecting groups in contacts which was missing in stock JB. MMS and sending to groups as individual texts is available.
Be sure to use meta data Gapps or you will lose the messaging app.
If you need flash video there is a way to set it up with dolphin browser.
You might want to set up your data partition at 2gig if you use lots of apps.

Looks like12/29 is ready for prime time. Of course I've only been running it a few hours.

Oh this is just awesome! I made a list of complaints, well, really it was a list of serious concerns for someone like me, sitting on the fence. I am a "techie", I made a replica fireplace with real twigs, light bulb, ashes glued to orange construction paper, wires, and batteries when I was 6 years old so yeah, I want everything that is new and cool. A few folks took it the wrong way, I am not perfect with words, so I had some explaining to do.

Yeah I always make 2G rom slots. I like a lot of apps. I could probably weed out 30 right now, but most I really do use. But these darned things update constantly and demand more resources. Slows the phone to a crawl. When I have to wait 2 minutes to make a phone call "because the phone is too busy" (Doing what?), then that is taking things too far.

Hmmm, gapps-kk-20131208-no_set_metadata.zip was recommended to me but if I won't get SMS, this will not do at all. Mind you, I never use stock SMS but to delete messages for real. I use Go SMS because I really like it. I have two other gapps packages to choose from:

103,507,547 gapps-kk-20131208.zip
289,019,331 pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20131215-signed.zip

The kk one is trimmed down to omit anything you can download from Play Store like Maps, Google Search, and many other things. The huge pa gapps includes everything including the kitchen sink. I have never seen nor understand what a gapps "nometadata" package is. This is dhackers gapps and whatever that means, it was supposed to be good. Let me see what Cyanogen recommends. It is actually the gapps-kk-20131208.zip file. You can click the name to see the page and what is removed to make the package smaller. But that is "The Official" CM11 gapps file. Here is the official description of the CM11 gapps files:

The packages below are for CyanogenMod 7 and above(or compatible Android builds based upon the same AOSP versions). These packages are DPI and architecture-independent, so you only need to match your OS version. In addition, any app which can be installed from the Google Play Store such as Gmail, Maps, and Voice Search have been removed from the packages for a smaller download size and easier updating directly through Play.

Okay, so they should work, I do have and always use Titanium Backup, and when I first open it, it will tell me that my device ID has changed and offer to restore it if I want. I can restore all user apps w/data for logins and configs, system apps should come from the Google repopulation script that runs at first run. I want to let Google put all my stuff back, then run Titanium to get things I got elsewhere. But that Google script only runs once after first boot. Once it stops for whatever reason, there is no way to restart it w/out a factory wipe. I have a lot of flashing to do. ROM and gapps, camera patch, jbx kernel package, WiFi AP patch, then finally I can use the darned thing and would love to have Google put my stuff back. All of this on a clean slot. You can see, with so many choices and so much to do, it is confusing and difficult to get a good start. Besides the camera.zip patch, there is the Moto_X_Camera.3.0.187.apk that should fix save to SD, as well as the 720p camera that comes with the jbx kernel.

I am not sure what you mean by flashing video with dolphin browser. I use Dolphin exclusively with Android. Otherwise I am a Firefox man. What is wrong with the video and is there some URL available to Dolphin that will fix this "video bug"?

The feedback that I have been getting all day is very encouraging. Especially with a new build to use. Thanks for the heads up. Any info on this video issue would be appreciated. Thanks! :good:

Ohmster,
I was talking about Flash video not flashing. Adobe Flash video. Adobe quit supporting it for Android awhile back in favor of html 5.
As for camera, the one included in CM11 is fully functional but has no option to save to SD. The moto X Cam does but FCs on panorama. I think CM has some obligation to provide gapps complete ie Google bloat (my term) .
I don't think it's that time consuming to recover from the initial FDR. I hate doing it but you just have to once.
Anyway, good luck and enjoy.

File list for CM11 - XT912 US VZW confirm please

Alright, I have been wanting to do this the right way for a quite a while now. I have been assembling a file chest so that I have everything I need when I get to flashing. I need some confirmation on the file list and clarification on the gapps. Anybody can help? Here is what I got, not sure what the camera2.zip is all about. Cameras.zip should fix the CM11 camera bug but this issue may have been addressed in the latest CM11 released; 20131229-NIGHTLY. So maybe I don't need any camera.zip to flash? Really not sure that is why I am asking for help.

3,990,560 camera2.zip
8,201,419 Cameras.zip
198,429,717 cm-11-20131229-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip
971,269 CM11_WifiAP.zip
103,507,468 gapps-kk-20131208-no_set_metadata.zip
1,322,336 JBX Kernel_1.6.pdf
15,167,903 JBX-Kernel-2.0-Hybrid-4.4_2013-12-09.zip
1,321,096 Moto_X_Camera.3.0.187.apk

As far as gapps go, I have an assortment to choose from. The one in the above list was recommended by Cyanogen linked from their site. Here is what I got:

103,507,468 gapps-kk-20131208-no_set_metadata.zip (dhackers)
103,507,547 gapps-kk-20131208.zip (CM11 recommended from their site.)
289,019,331 pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20131215-signed.zip (Everything including kitchen sink.)

So, do I have what I need? I have detailed instructions. Any preference on the gapps? Are the dhackers better? Just trying to build my file chest so I can lock myself in the room and get this done. Thanks!

IMHO, and I'm no expert,

kk gapps

CM11 1229

Boot and give it few minutes to settle, then reboot.

Give it a try.

Add other zips if you think you need.

Camera is working fine now. Except storage to SD.

Many like the JBX kernel but I'm not sure yet.

Just me.

So camera2.zip is a flashable zip for the camera2.apk, it wasa fix for the broken camera pre 12.29 nightly. Cameras.zip is an aroma installer of different cameras to also fix the problem. Moto_X_Camera.3.0.187.apk is the Moto X camera apk, which is also not needed.

Now there isn't a camera issue (except you can't store images to sd). Neither of these are needed on 12.29.

For JBX you'll want to use the newest stable version.

For gapps, it doesn't matter too much honestly, just depends on what all you want installed from Google bloat (read what's included or open up the zip and look for yourself). I prefer Dhackers because it has just the requirements and some minimal tweaks; I can install any extra Google apps myself from the store.

I'm on Verizon like yourself (West Coast), I've fresh flashed CM11 multiple times now, here's whati do:

  • Download the Nightly, JBX, WiFiAP fix, and Dhackers gapps into one folder.
  • Boot into SS 3.65
    • Advanced wipe: (Dalvik, Cache, System, Data, Android Secure) x3. {I still still triple wipe}
    • Install CM11 Nightly and gapps (add more zips)
    • Advanced Wipe: Dalvik & Cache
    • Flash WiFiAP fix
    • Advanced Wipe: Dalvik & Cache
    • Flash JBX with Moto X and 720p fix plus the other innit.d tweaks I like
  • Reboot and Done
I always do everything at once and no problems. Everyone had their own method of madness or habit with flashing...

Note: Yes I know triple wiping supposedly does nothing extra, but I always seem to have less problems than others when I do so.

Note2: I wipe Dalvik & Cache after each flash to guarantee there is nothing left over then in between flashing of packages.

Also, this doesn't take very long. I can completely wipe phone, reflash stock, swutch to slot-1, wipe and install, and boot up the phone in about 30min or less. Setting up all myapps again and all that jazz takes me like an hour or 2 more lol.
My front camera is upside down in hangouts video chat. Any one else have this problem? I'm on 29 nightly
Yes, it's been that way for me since 12.18 release.

My mobile is xt910 maxx from Brazil. Its will works fine? I need baseband switcher?

I remember in this thread I believe I saw someone talking about having a phone from Brazil. Try searching the forum. Also if you can normally flash umts_spyder roms without problems or any modifications, you should be fine; just be sure to back up your current rom first.

Hey Ohmster, been following you on here for a bit. I think you should jump in and do it. I'm running CM11 on XT912 with SafeStrap 3.65 in the stock slot for quite a while now. I haven't had any issues in a couple weeks. Here's how I flashed and what I flashed.

-Clean install on Stock Slot Safe Strap 3.65
--Activate the slot you want to flash to (Wouldn't recommend using the stock slot unless you're comfortable with what your doing)
--Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Android_secure (repeat to make sure everything is clear)
--Flash latest CM11 build (I'm now on 12-29 nightly)
--Flash WiFi AP patch (I need the AP for my job every day and this works great, no issues)
--Flash Paranoid Android GApps (I'm going to end up installing all of the google apps anyway so might as well get it all from the start)
--Flash JBX Kernal 12-09
*At this point I have always installed the Moto X camera within the JBX Aroma installer. I haven't tried the latest nightly to see if the camera is fixed but it appears it has been. If I were you I would skip the Camera install and just see if the camera on the 12-29 nightly works. You can always flash a camera apk later if it isn't working.
--Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache (Repeat...can't hurt)
--Reboot
--If you have any issues at this point, a reboot and wipe of the Cache and Dalvik Cache should clear it up, also try fix permissions under advanced menu in safestrap. Then you should be good to go after that!
--:D:fingers-crossed:

**It should be noted that when flashing those files I use the zip queue, add each file to the queue in that order and then flash

Hope this helped! Good Luck.

I've tried flashing the JBX kernel several times and if gets to the last step, optimizing cache I think (this can take 2min), and it just sits and sits way more than 2 min. I end up doing a "battery pull" and it reboots. It seems that everything is working after that. SS 3.65 just default tweaks, no camera install. Should I just wait longer? I waited at least 10 min.

I have noticed something off about the JBX flash at the end that gets a little glitchy with SafeStrap3.65. Mine get's to the optimizing cache part and generally takes under 2 minutes to complete, but then the screen goes dim and if i say no to the reboot, the screen becomes unresponsive and it will reboot anyway. If I recall correctly it took a bit longer one of the first times I installed JBX for it to clear past that optimizing caches part. But seems like an issue with the JBX Aroma installer with the newest build. If I were you I would wait a bit to see if it will complete the process. (I wouldn't wait any longer than 20 minutes personally...but make sure your phone is plugged in and charging when you do it) see if it finishes up. If not have you tried re-downloading JBX? Could be a bad download.

Got new 12/29 version - camera works, seems smooth. However, I use MyBackup Pro to restore my SMS, MMS, etc... But it can't 'see' my external SD card - when I try to pick the location to read the backup from, it says 'Local (Not Accessible)'. But I can see my external card fine from File Explorer, so I know it's mounted.

Any ideas? Anything special I need to do?

-Tom

Update: Never mind, a cache wipe seems to have fixed it. Strange....

Yes that is a known issue it takes 10mins or so and it does work........

Oh this is just awesome! I made a list of complaints, well, really it was a list of serious concerns for someone like me, sitting on the fence.

Besides the camera.zip patch, there is the Moto_X_Camera.3.0.187.apk that should fix save to SD, as well as the 720p camera that comes with the jbx kernel.

The feedback that I have been getting all day is very encouraging. Especially with a new build to use. Thanks for the heads up. Any info on this video issue would be appreciated. Thanks! :good:
Just so you know what the others said is true sms does work. Also they said all the steps just follow that it will work.
