I bought mine before the promotion and finally received an email that I will be retroactively offered this option through Fi:

We launched a promotion on the Pixel 4a (5G) today. Since you recently purchased a Pixel 4a (5G) (order ------------), we automatically added the promotion to your account!
To make sure you get the $150 bill credit, you or someone on your plan must activate the purchased Pixel 4a (5G) on a full-service plan within 30 days of shipment and remain active on Google Fi for 60 days in a row. You’ll also see these conditions outlined on your Billing tab within the next week. After you meet all the conditions, the credit will be automatically applied to your future Fi bills.

Going to buy one for my wife tomorrow as she's a Fi customer, too. At least she'll get it at the price immediately and won't have to wait 60 days like I will. Right AFTER I complained on Twitter I received the email stating I'd have the discount applied if I kept my account active for 60 days. Chat support is hit or miss, but been with them since 2015, don't plan on switching.

PS it is viable long term solution. $25 texts, calls and data

It's at $300.00 right now. Just ordered mine an hour ago with a Fi plan, upgrading from Cricket and my OP3T that I bought the day before they released the OP5. Grrrrrr.
I was so excited to have the spare cash laying around and to order a pretty much brand new phone I forgot to check XDA first to see if it could even be rooted yet!

Was going to go with the cheapo Moto G Power (technically 'free' with the google fi credits) but decided that I was tired of staying with cheapo phones and started checking out the Pixel 4a. Luckily I saw the 4a 5g $300 deal and jumped on that instead since it was even cheaper than the 4a which is surprising (new to Fi myself, been eyeing it for a while now). It's arriving tomorrow so I'm really excited to finally have a proper decent phone.

Just wish that there's more options for cases cause all of them are very nearly monochromatic and the few colorful ones that I kind of likes are too often using basic designs that I'm not too interested in (like a neat blue/purple color case but a very very boring Victorian style flower drawing on the back).
