Not sure if this is a good or bad thing but I saw this earlier:

http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-pre-orders-hit-550000-in-two-days

I'm going to start calling BS on this article and others like it. All the stories I've read so far have been quoting "numbers" but all of their sources are directly from Samsung (press releases?). There's very little they offer in terms of third-party accounting of how many devices have been sold. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but this just sounds much too much like the tech press fawning all over itself to report publicity numbers and never verify anything.

If Theranos wasn't proof enough that the tech press doesn't seem to mind quoting nothing more than press releases and fawning over the CEOs with absolutely no proof of the actual story, then unless they can provide actual corroboration from third-part of carrier sales, this isn't real.

Here in Australia pre-orders have outsold the supply of Gear VR but Samsung is honouring the deal but is advising that there is a 3 to 4 week delay on the bonus item. I work for a retailer here and its so far been the largest phone pre-order in our history. Samsung isnt making it up.

What concerns me about this is, if i recall correctly, the fine print on the free Gear VR with preorder said that there was a limit of 350k units for the promotion.
I saw the same and it concerned me. Surely there are more than 350k pre-orders in the US, let alone people without a pre-order who try to buy a device day one. There will be a lot of phones getting into people's hands next week, how long before that 350k units is gone?

I ended up swithcing my pre-order to Samsung.com. Automatic enrollment, and the stuff ships with the phone instead of waiting. No risk of not getting it.
