Hi,
Am from India and I bought Xperia 5III from au Japan(sim unlocked version modern num SOG05). Am able to get the network(sim detects jio carrier) and enable 4g data(internet service), but not able to call via VoLte. Tried following the steps from the thread but did not succeed. got stuck at step 2 itself..

when I flash the "magisk.img" am getting the below error.

Would be helpful if someone guides me with this...

Thanks in Advance!!!

its easy , make sure cable and drivers are installed properly, also if one code doesn't work, press generate from the sony website to generate another unlock code.
By the steps from website
  1. In your device, open the dialer and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
  2. Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

my bootLoader status says no. In spite of that tried unlocking with adb, but adb also failed giving error as permission denied

Guys, great thread
but i'd like to understand, i have XQ-BQ52 from UK. And i'm in Israel, which according to carrier_policy.xml belongs to MEA1 region. So 5G works, but volte and vowifi doesn't work. If i will flash SEA firmware should it enable volte?

Thank you

I dont know if flashing sea firmware will work , since i had xperia 1 iii bc62 and xperia 5 ii bc52, i flashed both phones with their respective sea firmware and both i lost the sim capabilities literally. I took the long route, as htcmage explained in this post. With the extra steps as trying to find a phone based on the same snapdragon chipset available in the country and extracting the modem from that and with help of htcmage converting the mbn of the country iam at to EFS files.
Rest was just placing them in the corresponding folder using efs explorer.
To return back to stock then removed the root from magisk by uninstall and then flashed the original boot img to make double sure and at the end relocking bootloader. Since post android 12 there was no ota , iam not sure that works but i did get xperia apps to update from sony update center. And yes factory reset still did keep the efs files i uploaded to it same.
I don't suppose you could elaborate on how you converted the MBN files to the required EFS files? I'm in Australia and have found the needed MBN files from a compatible chipset phone. Unfortunately I have no Idea how to convert the files or where to put them exactly. Many thanks in advance.

Did you try? I tried and never got my carrier radio to turn on. Seems only the same model number with different regions based on what bands are open for it works.

This method if adding efs files , does in turn make volte enable . But relocking bootloader to get ota makes the volte toggle disappear due to the fact we cant edit the build.prop file when non rooted. People with asian region phone models can flash sea firmware but those model from us or europe cant . The whole flash with newflasher to update ota is hassle.
So if anyone has a method to enable volte toggle(edit build.prop) without root on locked bootloader, then its a big win win for all.

I'm afraid, that nobody except Sony is not able to do it. If they won't fix it, I think that in a couple of years I won't be able to use this phone. According to Israeli ministry of communication 3Rd generation network will be turned off maximum on December 31, 2025. But I think operators will do it earlier, to free up frequency bands. If till that day there won't be solution, it will be really disappointing, because phone, as a phone will become unusable...

don't know if this will help anyone much, but i started this route to enable 5g and volte. I have xperia 1 iii and did exactly how it was mentioned in this post till adding efs files , but to no luck i never found the xml or efs files for the country iam at . extracted the modem file got the mbn files, yet couldn't implement into the phone.
even flashed sea firmware and HK firmware , still no volte or 5g. so then bit of digging understood carrier config xml can be added to the policyman folder under efs explorer and most of the MEA region should get 5G.
I was able to get 5g from the 3 carriers in kuwait. fast switching between 5g-4g-3g-2g. so no issues with calls.
So just add this file carrier_policy xml file to policy man folder under efs explorer and restart phone to get 5g in MEA/Africa/Asia region. Till now i never got the VOLTE working in kuwait.
Can you give me a hand? I'm in Mexico and just got my Xperia 1 III but can't get 5G working :(

    In the old guide version,
My English skills that I'm not good at...
    This person translated it.
    Please keep in mind.

The EBS file (VoLTE file) is...
    It's in Sony firmware.
    In the country you're using,
All the mobile carrier files are in here.
    You can use that.

It's in the policy man folder.
You must modify the XML file!

In the area that was withdrawn,
I don't have a mobile carrier band code.
Make sure to change it to a notepad.

If you change the XML file,
    VoLTE, of course.
    5G works normally, too.

    My poor English skills...
    Someone wise.
    Please deliver it.
    We wish.

    Be happy always.

That's annoying that WiFi calling is disabled.

I hope Sony fix volte issues globally for the upcoming Xperia 1 IV. All other manufacturers such as Xiaomi don't have this issue even if it's a grey import. I don't see why Sony can't fix the problem
