If only 5g is required , copy carrier confg file to policyman folder under efs explorer , then flash original boot and relock. Hope it helps with 5g. Get your mbn from any phone providing in your region then expand it or use notepad++ open mbn with it ,find the carrier config syntax and copy .you can even try any carrier confg file , usually 5g is easy to get

Problem is ota is out of question and if you do flash with newflasher , the modem files/efs files get cleared , so your back to rooting and again copying files to efs explorer. What i do now i wait 2 or 3 months then update , that way it takes me an hour to do the whole process of rooting and copying efs files. Whole problem is to get volte option under mobile network . Without root for certain regions it doesn't show no matter you flash sea or HK firmware.

Download the efs tools .
Run cmd and run the below command.
EfsTools.exe extractMbn -i mcfg_sw.mbn -p mcfg
Mcfg_sw.mbn is your mbn file name. Mcfg is the folder it will create in that root folder where files will be extracted.

I have unlocked but not rooted phone. I don't want to root it... Mainly prefer to keep camera and other apps to work as original. Is there any way to do it without root rights?

I dont have a pc now ,iam traveling as of now. First find the phone that has your carrier mbn, then extract it, follow the sony bootloader unlock first, then root the boot image . use the adb shell command as per htcmage and follow it to the teeth . Get it open on pc in efs file explorer then just copy the carrier config file to the folder named policyman. Flash back your boot image from the newflasher firmware you downloaded , relock bootloader. Now you have your stock rom with 5g and ota updates also Widevine L1. Also you should be thanking htcmage for this, i just followed what he did and did a lot of expirments based on that.

Now volte, wifi calling and 5g works on xperia 1 iii and xperia 5 ii . Can confirm it should be working for even countries without MBN in firmware from sony and also can be reverted to non rooted and locked bootloader. Thanks a lot to htcmage, with his help this was done.

You can follow the method done here, ur highly unliky to screw your phone with new flasher or rooting. Nope, unfortunately not. I tried looking around other phones' forums too for ways to use EFS explorer to get VoWifi, but they seemed phone specific.

To get vowifi, u need to copy files from another mbn. Some carrier specific mbn contains volte but some doesnt have vowifi, to obtain that,get mbn from another device for your carrier
doesnt matter same chipset, even old chipset can get volte as long as its for your carrier.
For starter's check for old xperia devices sold for the country. Even samsung devices firmware has mbn. Vowifi is inside nv and modem folder . To convert mbn to efs files ,check previous post.

Thanks for sharing this for the Indian carriers, and all the intermediate steps that were necessary for getting this enabled. Additionally, kudos to @htcmage for the detailed explanation. A combination of both your work has allowed to enable this.

I wanted to ask how can I add both Airtel and Reliance .mbn files to my phone because when I try to extract the files from both these respective .mbn files, the EfsTool creates multiple files (in respective different folders) with same suffix at end of file names (e.g. carrier_policy.xml__E1FF_F) which tend to replace/overwrite the existing files of phone. I tried putting Reliance's files first (that had the same suffix), it worked but Airtel didn't coz I hadn't copied those over because of this. But when I tried to put Airtel's files, it not only didn't work but Reliance also stopped working then. I am trying to make both these carrier's VoLTE work. Both the sims work just fine in literally any other phone.

Also, do I need to copy ALL the files that this tool extracts (it's a long cumbersome process) or do I need to copy some specific files only. Please help clarify this and the steps I need to take for making both these work in my 5 III (XQ-BQ72 Taiwan variant).

U need to rename , those files and remove the _E1FF_F. then copy all files as per the folder.
yes you need to copy all files. For second sim , u need to edit and replace the 'subscription 1' file, under /data. And finally yes its long process, but it is worth the effort, since volte, wifi calling and 5g(depending on region and coverage) can be activated via this method, be used for what the price we pay for this phone.
