5s Plus stuck on fastboot. Can the volume button be disabled?

Hi, I dropped my phone in a puddle and, while it has dried out and seems to be working fine, the volume down button doesn't work anymore. That isn't a big deal, however, when I rebooted my phone I found that it thinks the button is depressed, so it keeps trying to start fastboot.

I'm not sure if there's any way to just bypass this and boot normally or not. If I press volume up I can boot into Mi-Recovery 3.0, which gives me the options of rebooting, wiping the data, or connecting with MiAssistant.

I'm reluctant to wipe my phone unless there's no other option. I have tried getting into it with MiAssistant, but I can't seem to get it to connect, and even if I could I wouldn't know what to do with it after that.

I thought if I couldn't bypass fastboot and start normally then perhaps I could change a file to disable volume down and flash the file either via fastboot or ADB.

Does anyone have any ideas? Either a way of getting around fastboot or a way to edit and flash the appropriate file to disable the volume down button? Or another option I haven't thought of...

As it remains I'm kind of screwed as my email and Steam both use 2-step verification through my phone, so until I get this fixed I won't be doing much else!

Thanks very much!

Maybe you could connect it to your PC and while in fastboot give a reboot command?

Is there any command to force normal reboot? I'm not sure.. adb reboot would probably send it to fastboot again..

I've tried doing that using ADB, but it just reboots back to fastboot. I've tried various ADB commands but I've yet to find one that lets me bypass or disable the fastboot.

I think the best method would be some way to tell the phone that the volume down button doesn't exist. However, I don't know how to do that, nor do I have the file with which to edit the button or even know, for certain, which file to edit.

Any suggestions?

Options?

If this idea won't work, or if there's another (maybe easier) option that would work better, I would very much appreciate a nudge in the right direction! I don't mind doing the work, but I would greatly like to know if I'm cackling up the wrong tree.

Also, I was thinking I might get more eyeballs on the problem if I posted in the main Mi 5s or even Mi 5 forum but I wasn't sure if that would be considered against the rules... I believe the basic hardware is essentially the same, therefore the source of my problem should be the same. I think the main differences lie in the screen size. Maybe one or two other minor things.

But, thoughts on that or would it be against the rules?

Regardless, any help would be very much appreciated!!
