I bet you didn't had a j500h variant. So you can go and praise the guy. I won't. This is a stupid tutorial which makes no sense. OP literally has 0 clue on the H variant and posted this anyway. Because of OP I might have to just throw my j5 away since marshmallow is the worst thing ever happened to j5 series.
OMG! YOU GOT MMBL??? Oh wow! Now you can flash nougat through pie roms! Esp since THE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY SWITCHED THINGS TO MAKING IT A REQUIREMENT TO BE ON MMBL!

I agree with above, you probably could have gotten another variant who is able to run on the same network as you are now. I'm on the M variant, which is mainly a central and south american release. I'm on att network and it works for me, so it does back up the argument of get a different variant. But its ok, you can deal with it, figure out how to downgrade properly, or get a newer device.

Heimdall

Hi, coming back to j5lte since I smashed my newer phone.
I understand that I need to be on the MM BL (and MODEM) in order to flash the newer custom ROMs. In another words, if I flash the 6.0.1 files found here https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=158171 with ODIN, I should be good to go. My question is if the partitions layout has changed between LL and MM.
If the answer is No, then I will flash these two (as well as a MM recovery to flash the newer ROMS) using Heimdall on Linux. Anything else I should worry about?
If the answer is yes, I will need to find a Windows computer with admin rights :(

No partition change. Just flash and go. If you really want to, flash the full fw package for your device, not just the bl and modem.

The best that i could do is a modem flashable zip. I would never try changing the bootloader via flashable zip
