Old thread I know, but I just put a 64GB Sandisk Ultra (80mb/s) card in mine yesterday. No issues so far, but it was tricky to find a way to format in FAT32 as Windows Explorer in Windows 7 wouldn't permit it. I eventualy used fat32format, which worked perfectly.
Why did you try to format in windows to fat32 you know sdcards are already set to fat32 so you can automatically put it in your phone ready to use and even if it wasn't formatted to fat32 you still put it in your phone and your phone gives option to format no windows required

When I put the card in the phone, it didn't recognise it, so my next option was to format it on the PC.

Has anyone tried using a 64GB with Marshmallows "adaptive storage" feature yet?

Not me. I haven't even installed Marshamallow yet as it's only just available to me and I don't want to be a Guinea pig. I'm waiting till more experienced users have tested it. Not sure I'll go for adaptive storage anyway, judging by some of the negative opinions.

Does anyone know if you can separate the SD card from being the "internal" storage like that feature on the Marshmallow "adaptive storage"? It is a option or a compulsory thing?

When you insert the card the first time, you will be asked if it should be adopted (internal) or portable (external) storage, once it's selected you can revert either way later, but everything will be lost from the card in the process.

Just a note: I have successfully used a 64GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD formatted in *exFAT*. So far, I have tested with CM13, AICP, RR, with squid, agni and fire kernel and it works. Dunno about the default kernel of the custom ROMs/ Stock ROM. But I noticed a slowdown in write speed, especially in TWRP backup. So if anyone needs to get rid of the 4 gb file limit of fat32, they can use exFAT.

Did anyone try to use 128GB and higher cards either in stock or custom rom/kernel ? I am focusing on regular usage of cards of this size, not only support. Thanks.

The SD card size is not relevant to performance... It's speed rating is, if you plan on using it as adopted storage, a UHS1 or better card is recommended.
