Experimental new build with August 05th, 2021 security patches available

This build is to be considered alpha as it is lacking two patches as can be read on Gerrit. The patches from August have been included, but no updated patch level. It still reports July 5th, 2021, but as it is lacking the two patches from July from the "not implemented" section, it really should read June 05th. There are problems backporting these patches :-(

I've got it installed and running on my own device, but as of now only for a couple minutes.

As always, these builds don't contain any patches to closed source drivers, as those would have to be supplied by Lenovo. Who have long since stopped supporting this device.

Builds prior to April 9th, 2021 have been deleted from my dropbox to mitigate space constraints.

Use at your own risk!

Regards
Ektus.

Since I haven't been following your work until now, I wanted to ask a possibly stupid question…
At this point are we just getting security patches, or is Lineage itself getting patched/updated?
I know officially it's EoL, but I'm not sure if anything is still being worked on (obviously not drivers)

Cheers

With 20210909 I cannot use fingerprint scanner for unlock as well (and more important) as navigation button - moto actions.

With earlier builds I get bootloop after unlocking first sim on firs boot.

Can someone confirm this or this is my personal issues?

Can't speak for navigation, but no problems using fingerprint lock on my end with this build

Requires nougat stock firmware

If you are using oreo stock firmware then you will have issues with fingerprint

I"m using Nougat stock firmware, and all these LineageOS mods work concerning fingerprint here: to unlock as well as as navigation buttons (even simultaneously with the explicit navigation buttons).

As for my device: It's my daily driver, two SIM cards and no crashes whatsoever. It has never seen any oreo ROM, though, and I don't use the fingerprint sensor. Both my SIM cards require a pin, though, which obviously doesn't pose a problem. The fingerprint sensor works as home button.

I have jumped to Oreo and beyond with my device.
IIRC, before I installed this rom, I clean flashed Nougat - there's a TWRP flashable stock Nougat available here.
No operational problems… so far

I've got it installed and running on my own device, but as of now only for a couple hours. I did encounter some small glitch with new photos not being indexed immediately by the media framework. Navigating to the photo with ghost commander instead did show it was there. I'll be observing this further and don't know if the cause lies within the ROM or the updated OpenGAPPs. Or my config.

As always, these builds don't contain any patches to closed source drivers, as those would have to be supplied by Lenovo. Who have long since stopped supporting this device.

Nice.
One of the things I liked about LineageOS was that you could change to default usb mode
With both this one and the LineageOS15.1 it always changes back to charging as soon as I connect to a PC. (digging through the cobwebs of my memory, I remember L15.1 used to work)
Is there anyway to fix that or would I have to upgrade to LOS16 or up?

I am trying to downgrade to this from the Official LineageOS 18.1 (with Oreo firmware) on my XT1670 but I can't find working links for the stock nougat firmware to flash the necessary files for the fingerprint fix.
Does anyone have them handy to share? Thanks

Here's another one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/cedric-twrp-flashable-oreo.3827913/
The thread is for the TWRP oreo build, but the 1st post also has a nougat link - this is the one I used for downgrading myself

I don't have any comparison values to other ROMs, as I've installed LOS the day I got my phone and have used it ever since. I'm on Nougat because it works for me. Normally, I don't have any noticeable problems navigating, albeit first acquisition of a stable fix taking a couple minutes sometimes.
    1
How is the GPS in this ROM compared to stock ROM? I've used LOS 18.1 for awhile but i felt like GPS is kinda worse (slow acquisition, less accurate, sometimes lagging behind)
GPS is kinda important for me because i use my G5 as navigation computer.
I don't use Google play services with this ROM, but I do use UnifiedNlp (com.google.android.gms, install via adb) in combination with WLAN Standortdienst (org.fitchyfamily.android.wifi_backend), GSM Standortdienst (org.fitchyfamily.android.gsmlocation) and Deja Vu (org.fitchyfamily.android.dejavu). Use SatStat (com.vonglasow.michael.satstat) to visualize the quality of the different provided locations.

AFAIK, this ROM doesn't use AGPS, so getting a first GPS location takes a while (at optimal conditions it can take up to 12 minutes (as GPS specifcations state), most of the time it's much faster).

Beyond other things, I use this ROM to record my outdoor tracks (OsmAnd+), mostly in environments where there's neither WLAN nor mobile networks (i.e. GPS only). In the open, the accuracy is about 5 m, so good enough for all my needs. I also use it for off-road navigation (again with OsmAnd+).

As Ektus, I don't have a comparison to other ROMs (or the original firmware) as I'm only using this ROM.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 7 (nougat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.
