@kenf2210 flash a firmware intended for your variant and you should be getting updates again.
updates are disabled when your variant/country code doesn't match the rom, reinstalling the original branded rom fixes this(but you'll have a branded firmware again)
if you want to remain unbranded, manually install your updates through odin.

3hrs aren't the end of the World pal. I'm still on 4.4.4 and keep my eye on what's going on with 5.0.1 . Two different ROMs 501 already prepared on my PC but not sure is it worth?

I have freeze sometimes, hot battery, poor battery life, it's not worth to install it ... but that's just me

Imho you should give it a shot. Latest btu version is great, buttery smooth and batt life is great.

I used odin to update my ee note 4 to the btu version of lollipop, is it a simple case of downgrading using the ee firmware off samsmobile to kit kat and installing this via odin again to then enable ota updates again so I can get the ee lollipop update?

The mistery of BOE2.

OE2 seems to have the same “size“ of changes like OC5 (4596175). The highest Changelist has for now OD2 with 4712074.

As BOD2 has a lower baseband than BOC5 (BOC3 vs BOC4), maybe BOE2 is only a combination of a different baseband (or any other component) on BOC5 firmware.

Keep in mind, that a newer baseband (not for your network/region) is NOT always OK for your Note 4! (activation different LTE-bands (not working in your country) etc...)

Yes, you can do this without no problem. Choose wisely you new rom and i sugest you to perform a clean install followed by a factory reset from the phone menu to align CSC. That's it. Good luck.

You should be able to just flash the EE lollipop version over btu, shouldn't affect the phone in any way and CSC should be aligned but if it didn't work, you can downgrade to EE KitKat and then get the ota or flash EE lollipop
